Manhunt 2 illegal

1/10th of the population though. More strict licensing? Background checks? I dont know anything about Switzerland (excpet criminal bank accounts and toblerones) So i cant really stray into that. US is full of mentalists. Mentalists with Guns. That's pretty much what i was getting at anyway.

Game related violence is (apparently) on the up, so they're taking away the games. Not saying it's right, just saying thats what they're doing :)

If you're so desperate to blame something for what a nutter does with a gun/knife/etc, here's a radical thought, blame the nutter who done it!!!!!!

This banning business achieves nothing.... unless someone is willing to show me a definite example of where it has!

2 pence worth over....

Much like the McCanns, the parents of the victim from the murder linked to the original game used the press to skip over their neglect.

Games, films, etc should not be banned, thats the whole reason we have a classification system, in order to classify them based on their perceived impact on a person of a given age. Are the BBFC, by banning this game, ironically saying that our BBFC classification system is not good enough?

oh, just one more thing....

I can only speak for myself on this, but after 35 years on this planet, I have seen some mad things. I was a teenager during the videonasty 80's, played many many violent games, and have recently seen such charming movies such as Hostel, Saw and all those others.

With such a river of violence and general evil running through my life, why is it that I have never, ever, ever thought of even trying to do some of the horrible things I've seen?

Seriously, some decent discussion on this is most welcome. I find this whole thing quite fascinating.

I too find it to be quite insulting that someone else can decide what I should or shouldn't watch/play. I am an adult and therefore can make my own judgments based on my own observations. If it's sick then either don't play it or don't let your kids play it, simple.

We are becoming such a nanny state, wrap everyone in cotton wool and the bad things wont happen.

Becoming? Oh do get some perspective. This has been happening for DECADES - infact actually it happens less now than EVER before. Back in the 80's the censors banned all sorts of reasonably tame movies they would never ban today.

For films etc yes your right it was far worse but I was generalising.

That is because you are a normally constituted human being. Who is to say the rest of the population will react the same way you have? :)

Again, when will people realise not everyone is the same? What affects one person may have a totally different affect on another. God people are so full of themselves around here.

of course not everyone is the same so why are we then treated as such by the BBFC. Why should we all have to suffer because one person could be affected by playing such a game?

Exactly. If you are indeed 'normal' you can make the moral judgement that certain behaviour is not acceptable. If you lack that particular moral hard wiring, and are unable to judge what is deemed acceptable within todays society, it does not matter what you watch/play.

That certain something is lacking within you, and stopping you from playing a certain game will not counteract that deficiency, nor will it surpress the desire to cause harm to the poor soul that happens to cross their path at that particualr time.

Strange old world, full of even stranger people!

So how are we going to get this to play it? If it works on PS3 will a US or Asian copy work? Or are we going to have to get it another way? Or will it only work on modified consoles?

So the solution is to expose those people to the content... im sorry i just dont see how pointless killing can be fun especially against your fellow humans. I think dampcat has pointed out most of the reasons this stuff isnt needed.

But it's ok, guns dont kill people... crazy people kill people. So lets give them all guns. It's not the gun's fault! I suppose if guns we're illegal from the start 200 years ago and nobody had access to them, there would be 10,000 chicken drumstick related deaths or 10,000 comfy cushion related deaths per year. How can you blame the guns? someone had to pull the trigger!
Now you're talking about a completely different matter, guns can kill people, video games cannot. How are you going to kill someone with a copy of Manhunt? Throw the disc at them?
