Mantle Feedback/Bugs

Can somebody do some catalyst 14.1 vs 13.12 directX benches please as I have seen a few reports of a decrease in framerate, thank you.
 
So what Ultra terrain detail is still actually medium terrain detail? What do we have to do to get Ultra terrain detail? Can you prove the continuation of this problem with ss?

You have to trick it into syncing properly IIRC what I did was set it to low in the firing range, join a server and set it to ultra, then quit and on rejoining the server ultra = ultra.
 
BF4 dosnt last a round using mantle do back to DX until they fix the new mess they have made.

Half assed release to say the least, only 290 cards supported (no surprise there) coupled with more bugs and crashes in turdlefield 4. How many months were they working on this again? Laughable.

Why do people keep saying 290 cards only supported?? I have gains on mine and mantle is working fine?
Only I have crashing now.

I gain about 10fps on bf4 and the graphs are a lot smoother. One issue is a giant CPU spike every now and then. Causes a miny stutter in game which is normally so small as to be no issue but i have had one instance of a freeze that almost convinced me the game had broken then it came back.

Have an i5 2500k, 290x

same here on 7970 and i73770k

That really ****ed me off when I read the release notes, how many delays and how many months have we been waiting and the driver is still half ***** in terms of what it can support. :rolleyes: Just seems everything's focused on the 290 series and everyone else can take a back seat with their thumbs up their **** waiting for amd to remove their thumb from their **** to get other gcn cards supported. :mad:

I think they are right to sort out the 290/290x first as this was an advertised feature, it's a free boost for other GCN cards though.

As for the amount of time taken, well without trying to sound too critical, it has generated a lot of hype, people seem to have been salivating waiting to get their hands on it, and now that it has finally arrived (judging by the lack of benchmarks and the amount of moaning in this new thread) it seems to be a bit of a cluster ****.
I'm sure it will get sorted out (BF4 that is), but I wonder if by the time it does it wont matter anymore as the world will have moved on.

"limited gains" so in other words its barely functioning yet. Aka they concentrated on their newest cards and everyone else has to wait.

And in case you missed it, I couldn't give a monkeys if its tagged "beta" or not. They've had ****loads of time to get something decent out and all they've delivered something half assed that focuses on 2 specific cards and screw the rest for the time being.
 
Mantle just looks like it has higher contrast, the details are all their but lighting is different.

This looks pretty awesome to me, espeically as it's such early days.

Will be testing this out on the 7950 w G3420 PC at some point, wander how it'll handle a dual core Intel chip.
 
I dunno on the right hand side of the image its showing a lot difference (the 2nd lamp post might have been blown up or something) but still I'm not convinced its rendering all the same stuff properly until I see proof otherwise.

there is a 5 minute difference between dx11 and mantle screenshot i had to get back into the same server. in that time someone obviously knocked that lamp post. check my other images on the empty server both lamp posts are shown
 
I think the IQ has been effected slightly,but not loss of detail, colours and brightness mostly and the known fog bug.
I've been testing a little of the campaign (Baka) the section where you overlook the construction area with the birds.

DIRECT X


Colours look deep on the buildings to the right, notice the ground in the distance looks clear, sun effects look different too.

MANTLE


Everything looks a little too bright perhaps? i'm no expert though.
 
Well tried 14.1 Initially kept getting BF4 has stopped working trying to load the test range but this was sorted when I re-disabled ULPS in afterburner (had forgotten to disable after driver reinstall). Test range FPS maybe up by about 10-15 but not a lot avg 130-150 on ultra 1080p which was very similar to DX. Loaded up a game of Shanghai 64 player conquest and FPS definitely higher on average, used to be about 70-80 avg now more around 90-110. Game crashed on exit as changed back to DX.

However, I changed back to DX as got the odd 2-3 random FPS drops to 30 (similar to the BETA), flickering textures that were there on DX are still there on Mantle and I generally thought Mantle looked worse, on a map like Shanghai post skyscraper there's a lot of dust and whatnot in the air anyway and with this fog bug it took away a lot of detail. I know they said its a bug and not affecting performance so does that mean that the cards are still rendering everything behind the fog essentially unlike every other game that uses fog to render less to improve framerates :p

Promising but not enough just yet unless they remove the spikes and fog plus add stability (and fix the HDMI audio in 14.x). The flickering is full on BF4 but thought Mantle might do it slightly different and eliminate the flickering.

Look forward to the next version but back to DX for now. I am assuming knowone has noticed DX suddenly performing worse in 14.1 to make Mantle look better? :D I don't wanna have to go backwards in drivers!

Then explain why I rocking solid 120fps on Ultra?? very little drops and very smooth. Only thing changed I switched of MSAA. But on DirectX my frame rate will be all over the place?

My only issue is the game will randomly crash. Mantle is very well working on my system and if you want I can proof it for you.
 
Whatever way you look at this..

AMD's API at launch is already comparable in graphics to DirectX something that MS have worked on and polished for years and years and years. To do that with higher FPS and smoother render is an awesome achievement.

I bet MS are busy working hard on DirectX 12 right now :p
