from limited gameplay it feels much smoother on mantle and no drops below 60 in general play BUT....
there is a huge lag spike issue as the game will occasionally freeze for almost a full second. so mantle is currently good and bad

Wow, that's an incredible performance increase! Shame about the spike though (I'm getting it too, but it occurs for a fraction of a second it's tolerable - I'm confident it'll be fixed with updates)
 
So, people are trying beta drivers on a game that's not much better than a beta itself...
I'd rather use release drivers and play the game than mess about with it..
 
After finding mantle stuttering quite badly in bf4 after what was a very smooth game for me, I've found the same thing happening with DX11. I hadn't been monitoring CPU usage but gpu utilisation is all over the shop. I'm hoping that it's just a 14.1 issue that will get cleared up. I'm finding bf4 with DX11 stutters just as bad as mantle.

Back to 13.12 for a while...
 
Got an odd thing happening in BF4 at the minute.
I can run/drive about fine, but when i fire the tanks main gun the fps drops from an average 70/75 to 30 and stops there for a couple of seconds then recovers.
This only happens in mantle, DX11 is fine..
It's my work pc, [email protected], r290 flashed to 290x running stock 1000/1250

** forgot to add i play at 2560x1440, all ultra but AA disabled (im gaming not benching :P)

its a no swearing please. game but works better for me with Mantle.
uninstall old driver, enable mantle and free fps increase cant complain.

You may be right about this stutter thing being a problem of 14.1 in general, before Dx wasn't stuttering but with this beta driver, when I go back to Dx, game is stuttering though the nature of the stutter is a little different and less frequently.

Hope so. Mantle shows a boat load of promise, I'm happy to wait for them to get it right :) in the mean time, 13.12 weren't that bad for me. Silky :)
 
What settings are people using? Until today I just used the ultra preset in Dx and it run and looked fine. Never had an fps counter up before but it always seemed decent with my 4770k and 290 both at stock.

Slapped mantle on and matts cfg file to see the fps etc and loaded up lockers on 64 but it was tdm so a really tiny portion of the map.

The fps counter was telling me I was getting 54fps pretty much solid. Occasionally upto 85 or so and sometimes down to 40

Graph looked smooth with no spikes but those fps look low to me? But it does feel smooth
 
Just to remind people.. Mantle is not actually working with 7000 series cards in battlefield yet.. so the gains your seeing there are most likely just driver improvements no?

I saw a big increase going to these new drivers in BF on my 7990 but im pretty sure thats only the Driver just being better since mantle isnt supported yet in BF on my 7990.

That really ****ed me off when I read the release notes, how many delays and how many months have we been waiting and the driver is still half assed in terms of what it can support. :rolleyes: Just seems everything's focused on the 290 series and everyone else can take a back seat with their thumbs up their arse waiting for amd to remove their thumb from their arse to get other gcn cards supported. :mad:

I dunno on the right hand side of the image its showing a lot difference (the 2nd lamp post might have been blown up or something) but still I'm not convinced its rendering all the same stuff properly until I see proof otherwise.
