It's not that DX is completely rubbish, more that there are better solutions and the industry needs to step up and move on!

Ah ok, the petty remark was because it read like you was saying Mantle was fail because of the missing lamp post. No worries then bud. I'm really impressed from what I have seen so far of Mantle. Downloading the drivers to try on other PC in abit..
 
im getting a few more spikes now enough for me to go back to DX, im not to worried as im on a 7970 so see what the next optimized one does.

The Mantle option is available and working, whether it is providing a performance boost is debatable until more people test.

It is certainly not boosting my numbers, after the presentation earlier this week, I am not expecting to see gains on rigs with 2011 socketed six core rigs anyway with one or two cards, I am interested to see what it does to my tri-fire numbers though.

But I am running in Mantle?? All my software stops working and it list Mantle top in green. So no matter what AMD have done to DirectX part of the driver will mean nothing. I am still getting a high frame rate on Ultra in BF4 using Mantle.

The thing is DirectX is the best we've had (and in many cases still have) so you can't really says money was wasted because of it.
Even then it didn't force you to spend the money, that was your/our own choice.

DirectX might not be the best possible solution to the problem, but it's the best we've had. Would you have rather we had nothing (well OpenGL) until AMD decided they could do better?

I think back in the day Microsoft probably did they best they could at the time. What we have now is probably a result of years of best attempts combined with Microsoft resting on their laurels due to lack of real competition.

I'm not really sure Microsoft could've produced anything as low level as Mantle as they probably don't have the hardware knowledge.

So really it's AMD/Nvidia's fault for not doing this earlier. Even if it was just the added competition to push DirectX into being better.
 
who cares how many play what, what has that to do with THIS post?

Not installed yet still on 13.12, but may install tonight and if get any problems will just roll back. I will not be spending hours analysing why or what is wrong, if it poses me no problems it can stay on, I think I'lll spend of my time actually PLAYING the god damn game!!! (BF4 that is).

I think its a shame people care about FPS more than actually playing games :(

Just played with G3420 and HD 7950 3GB, yeah feels a bit like witchcraft when your playing nice and smooth at 60fps (Vsync on). Did get some drops, but nothing that would detract from playing to much. Campaign similar, high fps locked at 60fps (V sync on) Got some drops at that bit when at the start when you get stopped on the hill with all the seagulls. Graphics looked fine, looked really nice tbh.

This is very impressive imho.. Interesting to see how it runs the upcoming Thief game as well.
