I’ve never actually tried Bovril, and in fact, only realised from this thread it is also spreadable.
always thought it was just powder or the cubes.
Might give it a go, but winner will always be Marmite.
I had some Marmite popcorn a while back and that was fantastic. Also an advantage as no one would touch it
Remember a few years back when marmite chocolate was a thing for christmas? I like marmite, but having tried it I think there's a good reason you don't see that chocolate as much anymore, if they even still make it. It was not to my liking, no sir, not to my liking at all. Still preferable to the new galaxy recipe mind.

it implies unilever were not sourcing the yeast locally before covid, but a lack of lateral thinking on their part when Brexit happened saw them try to take the lazy route and hike prices rather than find UK sources for the yeast. Hopefully now they've squared that circle it has put a stop to unnecessary "brexit induced" price changes

Ah ok never looked into Unilever but they are 3 percent of my investments

Generally a good company, I need to get shares in them myself. From what I've heard they're well run, quite ethical and tend to look after their staff. All of which increases the risk of some US a'hole corp swooping in for a hostile takeover a la Cadbury et al.

Yeah don't have them individually but I'm in VUKE etf so it lists them on the vanguard insights page

Bovril is part of British Culture, mostly drunk it at football when growing up (and still do), it's a staple in my house.

Never heard of anyone using it down here its something northerners do along with keep whippets and wearing flat caps and saying "'ey up, there trouble at t'mill", right?

Nope, I’m a southerner and I love a Bovril. If the people you know drink macchiato’s and flavoured gins, then they won’t be Bovril drinkers.

A vote for Marmite.

The only thing it's such a gooey/gungy mixture it gives No More Nails a run for its money; you could hang pictures! A pain in the arse to spread and the lid's habit of welding on!

I had Bovril once, years ago, I wasn't adverse. Will have to try again as only vaguely recall.

Twiglets - no Xmas nibbles is complete without some Twiglets! :)

As regards Gin and being a distillery worker, we leave the flavors to the tourists tbh, Navy or standard with only the legally required Juniper berries being the main ingredient.
Marmite gravy on a vegan shepherds pie, that's living

Bovril is definitely easier to spread. With Marmite it works better if the toast is cooler before applying butter. If the butter melts too much the marmite is harder to spread and tears the bread. I've come across people who keep it in the fridge, must be like concrete.

Save yourself the hassle and just buy Marmite in the squeeze bottle so you can apply it to the toast easier.
