The car was slightly misfiring but there didn't seem to be any concerns.

possibly evidence for an engine failure of some sort making the throttle stick open?

How damn unlucky to have the truck lift at that exact height :(
I know. Just about an inch or two either way would have caught it on the front tyres or slipped it over her helmet.
The images make it looks pretty horrific when you consider it's been made clear she has 'life threatening injuries', not just a few missing teeth or a broken nose. Here's hoping she pulls through right as rain.

Wonder what Marussia's attitude toward Silverstone this weekend will be. They've made themselves look really, really bad allowing an accident like this to happen during testing.

I wonder why she didn't turn the wheel to avoid the lorry? Unless she was just too close to react to it or she was shocked at the car's acceleration and couldn't respond to it. :/

I think the misfire was reported by Maria while out on track, rather than heard by someone when she was driving back in.

Probably the 2nd of your suggested reasons. There is a few shots on the BBC website but, nothing that really gives anymore information.

Another possibility is that she just plain didn't see it. At that height and angle she would have only see the thin edge of it and in a jiggling F1 car and against a particular background it might have been near invisible. Shouldn't really have been that close to the truck anyway but if she was going round it or turning in a wide arc to bring the car back round she just might not have seen it.

Good news that she's concious but I suspect she still has a long recovery ahead. I just hope it doesn't have a knee jerk reaction to extra cockpit protection in, what is, a freak accident.

“Further to the accident involving the Marussia F1 Team’s Test Driver Maria De Villota this morning, the team can confirm that Maria was transferred by ambulance from Duxford Airfield, where the accident happened, to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

“Since Maria’s arrival at the hospital at approximately 10:45 this morning, she has been receiving the best medical attention possible at the hospital, which is the region’s major trauma centre. Maria is conscious and medical assessments are ongoing. The team will await the outcome of these assessments before providing further comment.

“The team’s first priority at this time is Maria and her family.”
