US: Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (US timeline) *spoilers*

I think some of you folk have forgotten how bad the other shows Whedon was involved in started and are mistaking what you think you remember about their early days with the reality (especially in terms of characterisations), at four episodes in Buffy and Dollhouse were both absolute cack , Angel was pretty bad until Doyle was replaced 7 episodes in, there was only really Firefly that was strong right off the bat.

I agree with this, overall I do like Whedon's shows but you do generally have to give it a while before it becomes an enjoyable show - though this isn't limited to just Whedon. If a show is utter garbage I switch it off but if it is a bit meh I will generally give it a series before deciding whether to continue. So far this isn't living up to its potential and unless something improves I wont continue to watch though I wonder if it continues like this whether it will get cancelled anyway. I agree with whoever said above they need some overarching story, I don't mind the individual episode stories but something to tie them together would be good.

Firefly still amuses me to this day, one a few shows that really starts well and maintains its initial promise was the one that gets cancelled.

DollHouse?
Even Firefly was overrated for me personally. (and I love scifi)

Dollhouse got better IMO, though it did take most of the first series to really get going. I think firefly is overated, people say it is so amazing etc which people then have high expectations of it and get disappointed. Whereas in reality IMO it is simply a good (half) series.

Dollhouse was mostly cack start to finish, Buffy and Angel were both massively stronger than Dollhouse or Shield, by a mile. The fact that both Buffy and Angel improved doesn't mean they started as badly. Lets say on a scale of 1-10, Buffy started at a 5 and ended up in the 7-10 range depending on episode. Angel started at a 6 and moved up to a 8-10 range, Dollhouse started at a 2-3 and finished a 5-6. Firefly started at a 8 and never went below it, Shield has started at a 2-3 as well.

The characters are completely awful compared to Buffy/Firefly/Angel, they are boring, predictable, everything that happens is cliched and stupid, the stories aren't interesting, original or in any way exciting, the acting isn't very good from anyone.

I think with firefly at the time it came out sci-fi shows had started to take themselves too seriously, firefly was a bit of imaginative fun without descending into outright parody/spoof or too far in unrealistic/adolescent fantasy.

The last 3 episodes have drastically improved, since the first 3/4 episodes. I still really don't like Skye but I her off because she is very easy on the eyes.

I think I might keep watching it, if it continues in this manner, maybe some more avenger style characters involved rather than just the admin bods.

I agree this has improved and reminds me of Arrow in the respect that I really didn't like Arrow that much at the start but it got a lot better and is now a show I'd hate to see cancelled.

I quite like the 2 techies as the comic relief.

Interesting thought about Agents of SHIELD...

The new Captain America film seems to hint at some kind of internal friction within SHIELD and how far Steve Rogers is expected to go to fulfil its objectives. We're starting to a get a sense of that in Agents of SHIELD with Coulson and his team not really working according to protocol or questioning SHIELD orders. Seems like it's all going the same way...

Anyway, I enjoyed the latest episode. It's good to see that the writers are finally trying to fix some of the issues with the series. Taking each character out of their element and seeing how they play with others. Certainly beats the overly "geeky" stuff they had going with Fitz and Simmons for the first two or three episodes.

I'm actually really interested in Ward. I hope they start to develop him soon. Him and May both seem to be getting a bit of a raw deal development wise so I hope they start to rectify that.
