What happens if you don't get him to shoot himself? On my playthrough I used the charm options every time and he "did a Saren". Does Shepard take him down if you don't manage to talk him out of the indoctrination?

As far as I can tell, the crew members that step off the Normandy are Joker, your LI, and your final squadmates (or just one of them) from the rush to the Citadel beam. The conscious decision to make at least one of those characters somebody who WAS WITH YOU when Harbinger took everyone down just furthers the infuriating nature of the ending.

You have just discovered the 'perfect' ending!

I loved this game and thought the ending was fine, I can't see what all the fuss is about.

I didn't like the ending, but I am not going to spend my every waking moment looking for conspiracy theories and reading endless interpretation articles.. Its really getting a bit old now.
I am just playing ME1 again, enjoying it, and taking the series for what it is. If its more about the journey than the arrival then I can live with that. Shame on BW though.. but life goes on.

AFAIK You don't need coop for anything related to the SP game.. I completed it with the "good" ending and never once played Coop. TMS : 6450 & EMS: 3215

Just finished. The whole of last bit prior to getting to the top of the citadel with randomkidsomekindofreapergoddude was really epic. I chose the synthesis one but to be honest none of them really seemed appealing or significant. I just can't understand after giving you all the choice and all the chance to build up the forces and get all these assets that they have no signifcance on the ending what so ever. The story telling prior to the end was, for me, on par with ME1 and that combined with the more refined version of the ME2 combat system made it my favourite out of the three....UNTIL THE STUPID END

There is at least one ending that needs over 4k EMS (or 5k depending on certain choices), more of a teaser ending though but theres almost no way to get enough EMS without doing multiplayer so it is a valid concern and Bioware better have something in mind for it.

Maybe DLC will add more assets in the future /shudder

meh! thanks for that No way I am going to bother with coop for an extra few seconds of meaningless cutscene (I guess thats all it will be).
I don't object to it in principal though, but if I feel like sociable gaming I rather jump on BF3.

Thoughts regarding Liara:

Is she not the best sidekick ever? I didn't romance her for my first playthrough. went with Ash who reverted to the same ignorant, rude woman from the start of ME1, so for me Liara was just a good friend. And what a friend! The scene with the time capsule was fantastic, her reactions on Thesia were heartbreaking and her sharing of memories just before the final battle, perfect. Garrus comes a close second- Shephard's brothers in arms from day one.

I pretty much used Liara and Garrus all the way through ME3, them and Wrex are the best characters throughout the whole series
