****MASS EFFECT : ANDROMEDA****

Spoiler about plot below kinda, answer if anyone knows, its just theory.

Yo, can anyone confirm what the plot seems to be, i heard something about dark matter/energy in the first video sequence after the 600 year mark... and am delightfully annoyed if they are now rehashing the old plotline.

Here's the issue, people played ME for different reasons. As someone that played it for world-building, immersion and the story, ME:A is a flop. If you are more into MP and other things, it's a different conversation (which I don't have an opinion on).

I don't care about MP, it's the single player that I'm interested in.

10 hours isn't really enough to judge a game, I've played plenty of slow burners that I'm glad I didn't abandon. Although from what I've seen is a bit meh so far. Might just sign up to the ea access to try.

When is the review embargo up?

How many hours are needed for that?

Here's the thing, first of all I value my time, so if I need to put 10s of hours into it to maybe get a pay-off, I'm not going to do it. Secondly, I can tell what I'm gonna feel like playing a game just from watching some gameplay footage & some cutscences and dialogue (100% success rate so far). Thirdly, I got into each ME from the very first second, why should this be any different? I have yet to play a game that ended up "growing on me" in >20 years of gaming. Not one.

Had a feeling this was going to be a flop, at least for me. Really enjoyed ME, but then ME 2-3 lost the plot both with story and gameplay. Instead of improving/adding more rpg elements they dumbed the game down, as for story, it was no way near as good as the first ME. Reminds me what happened with Matrix :(

Of course all this is my opinion, hope people do not get hurt by them (game is not out yet, might be good still, but I doubt it) :p

Hahahahahaha :D

Agreed, 2 and 3 were still good but you could tell they were primary made for console users and had to dumb them down. You got to wait before buying nowadays (or at least try the early access thing if possible) to avoid disappointment.

I really hope this is still a success though as I'd hate to see another great franchise ended.

Well the concept of Mass Effect itself is entirely to do with the manipulation of dark energy, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a plot point again.

I remember enjoying ME so much. It was a great story and game at the time that I went and pre-orderd ME 2 on steam paying full price and being left so disappointed. Played ME 3 (was also not that good either, especially the god awful end), but they never got a penny from me for that one :p

To be honest, I'm suprised on reading that Bioware actually let one of their more prized IP be worked on by Bioware-Montreal after ME3, I'd have thought they would have hunkered down and tried to put as much back in to regain as much lost faith from players after their "Artistic Integrity" line and put their best on it. The issues being raised all over doesn't help the ME Universe exactly recover well in my opinion.

I too was a bit disheartened over the turning into less of original Role Play Mass Effect with Shooting involved, into more Mass Effect Shooting with Role Play involved. Finished ME1 multiple times, each time on a harder difficulty back on original release. ME2 didn't quite capture the same feel (especially with the burn "stagger and you die" mechanic that caused so many deaths). And ME3 for me was just to finish the story started 6 years prior (back in 2006/2007) wasn't even as interested on some of the mechanics at that point.

Think I'm going to bite the bullet again and grab 1 month Access to hit the 10 hours play. Will let others know my thoughts on it later (Still downloading).

So what's the overall verdict from the preview, worth preordering for a big mass effect fan who enjoyed all 3?

The voice acting of the British sounding character reminds me a little of Destiny's AI voice actor prepatch where everything sounded like there was zero effort and just didnt fit the scene.

I'd spend £4 on EA Access to play the first 10 hours. If you don't enjoy it then you've only lost £4, rather than £40+ on a preorder.

It's almost like people forgot me 1-3 had some big lip sync issues and animation problems granted nothing as extreme as the andromeda footage. I love horizon zero dawn but that has also some really annoying lip sync problems that people have or are ignoring as rest of the game is perfect (which it is). Nothing is perfect but to the people saying it's for dumb consol players **** off? Generalisation much? Plenty of people can enjoy pc gaming (myself) and accept consol. A game doesn't have to be dumbed down it again goes back to lazy developers

Sadly this much is true mate. RIP one the greatest developers of my gaming lifetime.

Yeah. I remember loving Dragon Age. That may actually be the last great game they made IMO. Also loved Jade Empire back in the day.

4 posts in 1 page TNA.. wow u must hate bioware
Hate? I don't hate them. Why would you say that? I have said nothing hateful about them have I? Plus people even seem agree with what I said anyway :)

You just seem to be a bit defensive/apologist for them? :p

True ME had issues but that was nearly 10 years ago and they were finding their feet open limited hardware. I game on anything I can so I'm not generalizing when I say, this game is dumbed down. Its a shooter with very little else at this point and has been going that way since ME1.

Got Access, tried out Andromeda for a bit. (Might be some spoilers, so will add in appropriate parts, but nothing directly game breaking spoilery)

1. HD7950 can run 1080 resolution with all settings on Ultra, it's only slightly choppy in small parts so far (Still on first bit right now). So those with HD7950 or better can expect good visuals at 1080 as a base line, but you can go lower for a smoother frame rate.
2. Personally, the lip issues aren't that terribly noticable and this was after I went in after viewing those videos. Although there was a small patch?update? for the trial that was pushed out not too long ago for me before I could play, don't know if this changed anything.
3. Went in on Insanity, probably not a good idea.
The soft cover system needs a lot of getting used to.
4. Haven't actually had anything funky happen yet in my playthrough so far, so the graphical and animation issues encountered by others are not indicitive of how it'll be for the majority I'm going to guess.
Went with male biotic Scott Ryder and
history of
broShep
for my run
.

Overall, I'd say it's not as bad as some sources are saying (but I am fairly easy to please, so you can guess how big the stink over the ME3 ending really is to actually be able to put me off the ME Universe). And, for me, I'd say it has my interest at the moment, but the starts a bit sssloooooowwww.... So I can see why some are having issue with it retaining interest as easily.

Oh, remember to update drivers.

And before I forget. Setup was: 4930k 4.25ghz, Asus RIVE, 64GB RAM, SSD Boot, SSD Storage, HD7950, resolution 1080p (don't think it was 60fps but it was definitely, for me, servicable. But I did come from ME series on consoles so easier for me to overlook)
