****MASS EFFECT : ANDROMEDA****

Finished the game last night. Thoughts-

  • Lack of interesting side characters. You get maybe two interesting squadmates, then the rest are entirely forgettable. Of all of the characters in teh rest of Andromeda, there are maybe one or two with any personality to them that makes me want ot see more of them. The Pathfinders were all pretty strong charaters though. IF there is a sequel. I would hope they are all involved heavily...But then Biware don't do character games any more it seems
  • The biggest problem- All of the boring quests. Sooo many boring fetch quests and 'can you scan 50 of these' BS. Lots and lots of the side quest are pointless, with no consequence or followup at all. Also, lots of them will make you travel too much which is beyond tedious. For example, you get an email form someone telling you to meet them on a planet, so you travel there(that is 3-4 loading screens). travel to the actual meeting place, only to be told in a 1 minute conversation, or worse through text that you now have to travel to another planet, then when you get there, you probably have to go to a different planet....yawn. Really badly designed.
These two are total interest killer. I had Andromeda as my second most anticipated game of the year (after Kingdom Come and before Prey), but after all the reports I decided to wait until they patch it up.
But I am not sure I want to wade through boring quests and characters. I played DA Inquisition and quit 5 hours in because it was so boring (for reference, I enjoyed DA Origins, loved original ME trilogy and loved KOTOR 1/2).

Then again I have Origin Access, so I might just wait until they add it there and play it without paying extra, maybe I will end up enjoying it somewhat.

The thing about the boring side quests is that you can avoid them if you know how.
Quests are split in to 4 categories -
- Priority ops. The main story. All of them are worth doing (well, you have to!)
- Allies and relationships. All really good. The meat of the game really. These are the classic ME missions we all know
Helius Assignments - general side quests. Some can be fun, but none are really essential. You need to pick and choose what sounds interesting really. There are loads, but a fair few are missable.
- Additional tasks. All filler. Not much here worth doing tbh.... And there are a lot of them!

If you went through the game just doing the priority and allies missions, you would pretty much have a normal Mass Effect game, and a good one at that imo. Everything else is mostly added fluff. I think the key to enjoying the game is not doing too many of the pointless tasks.

I am actually inclined to go a bit easy on the game now, given how easy it is to ignore the filler contnet, and I did like the open ended way the game ends, and the way it built the overall game world.

Also, a big tip for anyone playing the game. There is a set of side quests in the Allies and Relationships section that have you unlocking memories....For God's sake do them! They are THE most important bits of the game imo.

Can you turn the worthless "tasks" down so they do not clog up the quest journal? And it is obvious which quests are worthless and which are interesting before taking them ?

It is pretty obvious which ones are not worth doing. As I said the journal is split in to 4 categories, so it isn't just a long list, and there are two categories with all of the good stuff in them, one that is hit + miss and you'll have to work out for yourself and one that is basically all the crap.

I've been playing this for a while and I've just noticed the sound the Nomad makes when you get out is exactly the same as the first note of 19-2000 by the Gorillaz :/

Edit- and Gorillaz have a song called Andromeda? Conspiracy?

Agree with this is as good as the main storyline imo.

Recently got this now it's available for a better price and I'm really enjoying it so far.

Of course I don't know first hand how much the patches have improved it since launch but it seems pretty good now.

Just got a new 292mb update.

please note that the hotfix was just pushed out, here's the notes:

  • Fixed issue where server would auto disconnect when sending strike teams on APEX missions.
  • Fixed a crash on UNC Outlaw when nearing outpost of signal source. (Kadara S.O.S.)
  • The Athletic Casual Outfit will now unlock for all entitled players (Deluxe edition content)
  • Fixed an issue which prevented completion of the Nomad upgrades / Shield Crafting quest. Please travel back to the Tempest in order to trigger completion.
PC only:

  • Fixed a HUD issue where some large non-standard resolutions would have elements centered in the middle of the screen

Finally finished the game about half hour ago, thought overall it was pretty good. Script was pretty bad and some quests were just stooooopid.

Think I'm being a bit dumb here, I'm trying to get all trophies and only need the matchmaker one which I presume I'm going to have to play the game again for (yay me ). How do you actually know when you've fully romanced a character? That's what I don't get, is there an option to see your status anywhere??

And can you romance them after the main story has ended? I seem to still have a flirt option with Gil when I was doing the homecoming mission where you have to talk to your crew members individually after beating the game.

I can't link as I'm on my phone and it's too much of a hassle... But it looks like some single player dlc has been hinted at after all.( not sure myself, they might be reading too much on to it imo)

No prizes for guessing the content of the dlc of there is any... It was the most obviously telegraphed dlc in history!

Did you not get the romance cut scene with your choice before the final mission?

Not that I recall. I seem to have fully romanced and consequently slept with Gill after doing the main storyline however. I presume that still counts?
