I think it helped cut out the cack a little bit.
It seemed ME2 had *too* many crewmates, especially as half of them were dumb cliches or just plain dull (Jacob, Samara, Thane...).
So long as they survived, most of the really good ones still ended up back on your team anyway.

Yes, I know, and most people will have them in their games. I don't want to keep going on about it, but what I am trying to get at is that the problem with the suicide mission is that it creates the possibility that lots of the characters you have grown to like can die. From the writer's point of view, that seriously restricts where they can go with the story in the next part, and means that these characters can't play a proper role in what comes next. All of the squadmates and crew that can die in ME2 are relegated to unimportant cameo roles in 3(with the notable exceptions of Garrus and Tali...fans would have rioted if they hadn't been included as squadmates!!). Not saying some of them aren't done well, I am ok with most of the cameos, but none of them are actually proper squadmates, and none of them have any real impact. I would much rather have had the team I had already built than have a new crew pushed on me in ME3....Having Zaeed just standing around the docks, Kasumi showing up for 5 seconds and barely doing anything etc. A lot of it feels like a cop out.

Overall, the cameos are actually quite good in most places, but they would have had much bigger roles if they couldn't have died...Like Liara for example.

Did you get to Mars? That's actually a nice mission with a great soundtrack.

In any case I do think the Earth intro is poor - horrible dialogue, nonsensical start to the game.

The best thing about the intro is the music and leaving Earth scene.
 
The Mako's returning in the next Mass Effect game, which is welcome news, I bloody loved zooming about in the Mako in ME.

Hope they actually give it some kind of handling this time on the PC. (Not that I'm likely to be buying another EA game any time soon though).

Heard similar from a few people but dunno if I've got the time at the moment really to sit down and drag myself through the first bit (which really doesn't inspire me at all) to get to any potential redeeming bits of the game.

Mass Effect 3. There are 3 very good reasons to play it:

1. Epic conclusion to the Genophage story arc, which is some of the best writing, action, and most emotional moments in gaming.
2. Conclusion to the Geth/quarian story arc. Again, it is some of the best gaming ever imo.
3. The rest is so epically bad, it is often hilarious. It is worth playing for a laugh, and as an example of really bad writing and game design(I'm being serious btw).

I can't remember, sorry.

I tried about four times to get into it, but something about it made me want to mod it straight away (I think I just didn't like the feel of it). I did get fairly far into it on the final try, although I can't remember where I got to. I really liked DA:O, though. I'll have another go at some point.

I really cannot remember any of this! :eek: Luckily, I'm just going through the trilogy (well, it's on hiatus now due to Commonwealth Games) so playing through ME3 will be as if it's the first time! :p

The problem though is that the entire Geth/Quarian story from the trilogy is made entirely redundant by the pitiful ending.
 
Yeah "we got over the reapers, its 500 years later, stuck the jump gates back together and all is well but we are not going to say what really happened 500 years ago as its been silenced by the council..so anyway here is your reboot..enjoy..."
 
Wait, what the ****?!

I've just read it takes place during the trilogy - just "in another part of the galaxy".

How the hell is that going to work? Especially with the emphasis being on exploration - which is what Gamble has said. Why would anything be more important than the Reapers during the trilogy time period?

Bit worried now.
