Winder how much of that would actually get ordered, I can't see why all that is needs for a relatively small bump.

Yea it’s expensive but what’s wrong with the list of parts?

Most of them small pieces of trim and fixings needed to reattach the broken bits to the car. The parts price doesn’t look too bad for brand new given it includes a bonnet, bumper and presumably a front wing also. Sure it could be cheaper if you got used parts but that not how insurance works in the U.K.

what’s the £500 ‘other’ for given everything else is itemised?

No clarification on that. It's the general inflated cost of it all that's disgusting. And happening day in day out.

I'll be very impressed if they can sort it in 7 days though. Took 6 months for the garage to finally gather all the parts required to fix some light front end damage on my car this year.

They never did tell me the cost of the claim but based on that quote mine must have been similar or even slightly more

Could well be.

So you had a loan car for 6 months!?

Be nice to see it itemised as bolts/pop rivets shouldn't be expensive. I guess they just write everything off on the old bumper and don't refuse parts. I will admit I thought it said shock absorber for a minute. Oh I also forgot that bit of a mini is part of the bonnet.

yeah - I was similar. Smallish bump in my golf, similar to the mini - all in £4k as it was insurance. They just bump it up to the max as the insurance will pay anyway.

Thing is the whole idea of bumpers were to be an almost disposable part which takes a bump and protects the car. But now manufacturers are attaching all sorts of stuff to them so it costs loads to replace a smashed one :/

It's just a piece of moulded plastic, it should be cheap. But add on things like parking sensors, cameras, radar for all the current safety nonsense and it costs loads, plus the usual we-saw-you-coming markup through insurers.

Always worth a call to “See what they can do” It’ll get reduced somewhat, usually always does I’ve found.
Could do but thay involves talking to someone :p . Managed to get it down to 650 so reasonably happy.

With the bumpers, can sensors not be swapped over, or is it a case of yes but insurance change everything?

There's also crumple zones now. Getting hit in the rear is now much more likely to significantly damage the bodywork. The logic being, when a large force is applied it is generally preferable for the car to absorb more of that kinetic energy rather than the people sitting in it. But it has driven up repair costs / chance of write-offs.

Or if you go through the price comparison websites and find the quote for your car with the same insurance company is CHEAPER - ring/online chat with them. Saying you will stay with them for another year providing they charge you the quote on Moneysupermarket etc.

I had that a few years ago and the online quote was around £35 cheaper than my renewal. Knocked a further £10 off. Plus gave me a £20 gift card. Wins all round.
