Massive Car insurance costs?

Is there actually better deals on energy now?

I thought they were all pretty much the cap price.

Energy companies have pretty much become a cartel, like water. They have killed off price comparisons like they always wanted to do.

Now everyone is stuck on variable rates and they help themselves to free loans from the public. The whole thing needs shutting down and going back in to state ownership.

Just had my renewal, last year I paid £342, renewal came in at £544, cheapest quotes I could get was £423, managed to negotiate my renewal down to £455, so for now I think I will just stick, not sure I can be bothered with the hassle of switching for the sake of £25.

Going to keep checking over the next week to see of I can better prices though.

Also tried Direct line, who are not on comparisons, £1000 , now I know why!

All of the insurers that say "we are not on comparison sites" are lying or massively bending the truth. They are all on comparison sites, just under a different brand.

I would only run a quote with one of those companies if their other brand is one of the cheapest, or you are wasting your time as the underwritten algorithm is not going to be much different.

For future reference, Direct Line uses their Churchill and Privilege brands on comparison sites.

Yes - so they've just increased everyone's premiums to compensate :D
that's what I thought, but people are still saying they can phone up to get the price comparison price rather than the renewal price - doesn't that mean the insurers are charging a loyalty penalty? shouldn't there be some sort of punishment/consequence for them doing that? (i.e. lock them up and throw away the key, nuke from orbit)

mines gone up like 59% :(

However on checking new quotes all the excesses are like 300+

My current policy has an excess of a grand total of 50 quid!

Apparrantly Aviva are now online only and thers no one to talk to :/

i have just put an i3 on our admiral multii car policy.

it has almost 6 months to the day remaining on the policy, and our old car which was just written off in an accident was an old pug 308 worth £3000. That car cost from memory £250 for the year

so assuming the maths trak then there was about £125 of "credit" left on my insurance account for a new car.

the i3 went on valued at £17000, and the cost to put it on to see me through to the end of the current policy was £98, so by my man maths the cost for the i3 insurance was about £225 for the 6 months with a £200 excess, ncb protected, 8000 miles a year.

that tracks about right, i did a test quote last night and got a quote for 12 months for £479 if it was on a multicar policy for a random i3 that i just made up.

My Admiral policy is due for renewal middle January.
I've just added home insurance with them, moved from Directline which was £179 this year, Admiral on their Gold tier cover was £165 for the year, done this as in theory the discounts add up, so fingers crossed when I renew our seven cars in with them in January we won't see any increase and maybe even a drop, not holding my breath though, so lets see. :)

I keep thinking about moving my home insurance to them. can anyone confirm if it saved em money

When I moved my home insurance to them they dropped my car insurance by about 40%. It’s creeped back up now and the new renewal is more expensive then comparison sites.

Car insurance in Dec 2021 was
£253, Dec 22 was £381 and Dec 23 they want £653. Cheapest I’ve found is £530 ish.

My renewal has come through. I actually winced as I opened the email, as I was expected the worst...but it's gone from £502 to £570. Given the huge increases some are seeing, and the fact that I have a non-fault claim from when my car was dinged at the dealers, that makes me think I've got off lightly. Will probably have a quick cast around on comparison sites but will probably just renew with them (Chris Knott) as they've been great to deal with in my experience.

Oof, admiral multi car renewal for X3 M40i and Golf GTi came in at +70%. Comparison sites not showing anything better at the moment so I’ll see what they can do on the price

I have one of my cars with Churchill but suddenly after a few years they aren't offering a renewal and don't even appear on comparison sites. Not sure what is going on there.

After contacting them they offered a price that came in at +50% on last year. Comparison sites could only offer a similar price for just the X3 so had to go with it. Fun!

Just got a quote from Adrian Flux on a 2012 Avensis diesel. Zero no claims because it's on my campervan until I sell it, then I can transfer it across.

They came up with 1600 quid, with a straight face.

Came back a second time with 970.

I'm gonna go with Admiral at 700.
