Massive Car insurance costs?

Yeh, that’s not how that works either.

You are paying 11.6% interest on the monthly payment.

No savings account beats that, you’ll be getting less than half that in a really good savings account.

I'm also looking for replacement car , so I'm stashing as much money in to that for the moment since I have topped out my savings . .

As I said before. Paying it all in one go just to see a saving of £4 per month really wouldn't bother me. If would save me £15 a month fair enough

I'll think about it next time

I don't think you get it.

You're not saving £4.

You're paying £4 extra.

Why are you paying more for the same outcome for no benefit? The opposite of a benefit, you're worse off. Add that up over the years and it's just a pointless waste of money.

Yes I do get it .

Because thats the way my bills come out. I dont pay for my council tax in advance..I don't pay for my water in advance, I don't pay for my life and critical illness insurance in advance, I don't pay my home broadband In advance.

I have saved £100 by going with a different provider than last year for the motor insurance..

Do you pay road tax monthly as well?

My current car, ioniq 5 AWD is on salary sacrifice so I don't pay for insurance. As there are so many deals on new EVs at the moment out of interest I thought I'd do a few quotes. My old civic 1.6dtec was around 35 a month ( about same as it was in 2023), an MG 4 xpower was around £55 a month, didn't think that was to bad going by performance and car cost. Then I thought I'd look at a BYD Seal excellence, I saw it come in at 405, at first I thought that's cheap for a year then noticed that was for a month!! Best part of 5k a year!

So I was on here a year ago, my renewal had gone from £339 in 2022 to £633 with Admiral. I ended up going with Chris Knott for £501 in 2023 as it was the best I could do.

This year's renewal has come through at £550 (guess they just added 10% for the sake of it). Jump on to confused.com and now I've got a new policy for £368 with Aviva.

I don't understand how insurance companies arrive at these figures any more. The excuse last year was an increase in repair costs... Now (for me at least) it's come back down again.

I have 2 cars with Direct Line. Mine and the missus.
Renewal quote has just come through. Mine has increased 52% to £700
The wife's has gone from £240 to £425

Managed to negotiate a little, and was told things should return to normality next year. Whatever that means.

Just sales patter nonsense is what that means. The people answering the phones know no more than mystic Meg, they just regurgitate what ever number the computer tells them.

Direct Line have historically been pretty good for me. I've used them in the past. However this year they quoted me over £1700. It made £570 from Admiral look like a bargain

Get on the comparison sites. That line is just waffle as b0rn2sk8 says.

Always done well with Admiral and thought Id be abandoning ship today, but ended up staying

Renault Trafic went up to £750, £200 of that was for business use; even though I just visit offices or customer premises, as its a van, its needs to be "own goods". £200 up. My Vito was classed as car and was around £300 with business use.
The BMW i8 I only just got, its £550ish. This seems decent after checking comparisons
The Skyline, not that it ever moves, is £160
Lastly I bundle my Mums house in there that i own, went from £50 to £200

Boom, £1700 down

I checked comparison sites and could have maybe got £20 off so couldnt be bothered

I was pleasantly surprised today when I had my renewal through from Axa. I was expecting the worst and expected to have to shop around but mine was down from £520 to £340 and the missus's was down from £360 to £320. Result!
