Masters of the Air 2023

40mins run time this week seems to be getting shorter and shorter, this has a feeling of spinning out a story that could be told in 3 episodes tbh.

Been really enjoying this so far. The flying fortresses were really vulnerable when attacked. I wasn't aware they had rockets in aircraft during that time??

I’m kind of enjoying it. There’s no doubt it really hits home the fear they must have gone through flying in those things. Simply cannot imagine it.

However the show feels like it’s either all out action, or not much happening. There’s not much of a story going on besides them going on missions. I find myself ‘tuning in’ to watch this episodes action sequence, and not really see what’s happening in the long run.

Will be interesting to see where it goes.

It's been decent so far, it manages to capture the terror of having risk death in one of these things really well. Nothing of any real interest happening on the ground sadly.

Germany had the R4M in 1944
Only a small number of aircraft were fitted with the R4M, mostly Messerschmitt Me 262s and the ground attack version of the Fw 190s, which mounted them on small wooden racks under the wings. On one occasion, a Me 163A was fitted with several R4M rockets, and this setup was tested for several weeks in 1944, without incident. This was the first time a rocket propelled aircraft has had rocket propelled armament.

I think the battles are terrible. Looks like a few others agree according to the comments on this video. Yeah the jericho trumpets are annoying but the battle is still far better than anything I've seen in master of the air.

The fighters were moving so fast I couldn't tell if there were any friendlies defending the bombers. I'm enjoying it but it isn't a patch on BOB, then again nothing is really.

Sooner it was a Lancaster bomber rather than the ye ha`s.

Will give it a watch when nothing else to do.

we were very spoilt with that though and unfortunately the planes are wrapped up in cotton wool these days or they just dont fly anymore. granted some of the battles look weird/bad but i think its just the limitation of the cgi with masters of the air

I’m enjoying it but it’s not blowing me away.

Probably an awful way of describing it but it feels too cinematic/hollywood. I can’t put my finger on it.

Feel the same, enjoying it 7/10 but it's missing that rawness that BoB had, and I think that's because you don't get that on the ground interaction.

Its going to have to have a lot of CGI unfortunately - its 9 hours odd with at least half of that flying around in planes
its budget for 9 episodes is like 1 MCU film worth, so pretty good value hours of CGI wise per $

I think the CGI is good in the air scenes (and at times very pretty) the landings / crashes seems to be where it looks less realistic

Its doing a good job of showing the stories (so far) of the real people so its doing its job IMHO, and tension is kept high during the raids, like anyone could be gone in a second at any time it feels

I think you have to realise that BoB is a freak of nature and it would take some absolute genius television to best it. Forget it's link and just enjoy the fact we have this type of show back on!

I actually like the fact there isn't too much story. WW2 is heavily documented and I really enjoy the sense of utter chaos and fear from not knowing what's going on. I think they convey that really well. After watching episode 3 I'm like, what is going to happen in episode 4? Who knows?! Who on earth is going to survive to the end?! Is there going to be any plot armour on the main characters of the show or not?

Very good!
