Mattresses - I need knowledge

Got a Silentnight Mirapocket Elegant Mattress and bed in superking coming thursday, got all new bedding but weve no idea what pillows to go for

Ah yeah, makes sense. I've just ordered a couple of deep fitting sheets from John Lewis myself.

Did you manage to get it Friday? What are your thoughts?

I'm still not sure about it. On one hand i think it feels comfy but at times it feels less like i'm on a mattress and just on a thick bit of foam which i suppose is exactly what the top bit is.

Anyone who has upgraded a pocket sprung bed to either an Eve or Sleeping Duck Mattress offer any advice? I'm in need of a new mattress as my pocket sprung silent night with a memory foam top layer has sunk in the middle (5yrs use) It is a firm mattress and just wondered how either of those mattresses (firm options) compare to a more traditional mattress?

Well, even though it said estimated dispatch was the 6th, I've just had an email confirming dispatch today, which is a bonus.

Andy is that a double? How big the box you reckon and the chances of me carrying it up to the 2nd floor via 4 flights of stairs, presuming delivery is to external door only?

Yeah says double on the box.

Mine was a King size and i got it upstairs on my own (terraced house so just the one lot of stairs). The king size weighed 40kg so assuming the double will be around 35kg. My tactic was to create hand holes and then drag from above.

Yeah, mine had said 6th I think, but was attempted on Friday.

I was a little surprised, the delivery guy asked me to come help him bring it in from the lorry. I manhandled it about the flat easy enough afterwards, although I do now have a sore back (I do have a bad back though, it's not just from this)

As I do with a lot of things, I'm doing a video review, but wont be finishing it for a few days, as I should see how it sleeps first!

Good news is the John Lewis deep fitting sheets fit perfectly.

Best way to get rid of your old mattress?

Not sure, if it's in ok shape I don't know if charities are interested in them maybe? Failing that it's the tip.

Luckily mine is only a year old and my sister needs a no frills mattress for her guest bedroom so that's mine sorted.

We just ordered a Rest assured mattress from Carpet right. Was going to get something like a Simba online but we tried the Rest assured one in store and both fell in love with it. Mattresses are very personal so I was glad I was able to find something I really liked before committing. Its coming in superking too, going from a double to a superking will be amazing! :D

Well the Duck just arrived, hauled it upstairs and wrangled it out of the plastic, couldn't resist lying on it once it had sprung into shape.

Not sure if it's because my current mattress is total rubbish and my back is used to it, but I instantly had pain in my lower back, literally 5 seconds after lying on it. I don't sleep on my back and like I say, I wonder if my spine is used to the trash coil mattress, but it's a bit off putting :/

My wife and i have also had some lower back pain. I find it worse when sleeping on my front. Here's the response from Sleeping Duck in my response to their email above.

Hi Martyn,

Thanks for the feedback! I'll pass this onto the design team so they can discuss further options!

As for the lower back pain, if you're finding it gets less and less after each night that's a great sign. It's not uncommon to take a week or so to adjust to a new mattress, however if you're still unsure in 2 weeks or so please let me know and we can discuss firmness options.

Please let me know if you have any further questions, I'm here to help!

Kind regards,
Alex

It wasn't pain as such, more a feeling of something realigning, closest I can describe it is if you've ever spent time bent double digging in a garden or something and then you straighten up, if like me you have to do that in stages, it felt like that.

I think that initial back pain was from carrying it up four flights of stairs and wrangling it out of the box/plastic onto the bed.

When I went to bed last night it felt very good, no hint of discomfort. Slept well and woke up pain free.

It's a weird feeling mattress, it feels really dense but at the same time quite soft, not sure if if I'm convinced with foam, it kind of sucks you in to one position and isn't keen on you moving around. Will see how it goes.

Thats quite smart how it unravels.

We took delivery of our new Silent night mirapocket elegance mattress and divan today.
Nightmare to get up the stairs but its in now, so happy with it.
Going bed in a minute to try it lol.

Anyone got one of the beds from JohnRyan by design? I was just going to get a mattress but with my frame being slatted and creaky I think I'd rather just get a bed as well. Wondered what the quality is like? Also a bit of a headache one which one to choose? I think matress wise I'm going to go for the Origins Pocket 1500...
