Mattresses - I need knowledge

Anyone got one of the beds from JohnRyan by design? I was just going to get a mattress but with my frame being slatted and creaky I think I'd rather just get a bed as well. Wondered what the quality is like? Also a bit of a headache one which one to choose? I think matress wise I'm going to go for the Origins Pocket 1500...

Yes, I have one. A king-size Artisan Natural mattress with the 4 drawer base and headboard. I'm by no means an expert and nor have I tested a multitude of other mattresses and bases but I would say that the quality is very good. I've had it over two years now and sleep comfortably. The drawers in the base are all level and open and close with clean motion. I seem to remember it was delivered with a couple of castors short and they sent them to me without any real further hassle.

We have that mattress but bought a similar looking divan base, headboard and hybrid blue foam topper cheaper on eBay. I'm 99% it's actually the same 4 drawer charcoal base John Ryan sells, didn't realise until the mattress delivery guy pointed out we had a John Ryan base. Saved a few hundred overall on the 3 I items from what i remember.

Quality wise it seems fine, no creaks and the drawers all operate ok.

Think this Sleeping Duck will be going back, just can't get on with it, although I don't think they'll fetch it any earlier than 3 weeks of delivery.

Not sure what to look for, I think I definitely need a spring mattress. Might just settle for either a better Ikea one or try a Silentnight or something, don't think I'll find anything super comfortable whatever I go for so it's a case of just settling on something I can live with.

Way too hot and soft, I might ask them for the firm topper before it goes back but I don't think foam is for me. I have a window full open, no heating on and a summer duvet and I'm still sweating my balls off, it's like sleeping on a bin bag or something. Plus it sucks you in to one position and won't let you leave, I think I prefer to be on a mattress rather than in it.

Woke up with a bit of back ache, seeing as they won't take it back any earlier than 3 weeks I might as well ask them for the firm topper replacement. Still not convinced foam is for me though. I live two minutes from Ikea so I may swing by next week and have a try of one of their pocket sprung jobs.

I know about the 100 night trial, I was refering to the return period and was going by this:

"It takes time for your body to adjust to a new sleeping surface and for the mattress to adjust to your body's natural contours. This is why we recommend that you try your new mattress for at least three weeks before using the swap or money-back guarantee."

Not sure how strict they are with it, it sounds a bit ambiguous.

Anyway, just applied for the extra firm topper as it wasn't the best of nights last night.

looked at sleeping duck web-site.-
Their marketting point that matress is vacuum packed to a 1/5 of size is not very inspiring, what does that say for long term reliability, what happens to the springs too, under this packing. ?
[Our award-winning modular mattress is a hybrid design. Incorporating both foam and springs to ensure you sleep happy.]
their picture shows it rolled up ? I take this as a product negative.

I currently use a traditional pockets spring, do not really like the warmth/embedding aspect of Tempur/thermo matress (tried at a relations),
and would be inteerested to try out a Dunlapillo, if that exists in a reasonable budget.

Had 5 nights on my Silentnight Mirapocket Elegant, myself and my wife have never slept so well or felt so good.
My neck, even moreso than my back feels amazing, theres no cracking and crunching in the mornings as i loosen up, and i feel better during the day at work and at gym after (I powerlift so good lower back health is so so important).

It's a standard way to pack a mattress these days, they don't just roll it up and hope for the best, it's squashed flat and then vacuum packed before being rolled. I'm sure as much research has gone into how they pack them as has gone into the mattress.

They all do it.

Firm topper arrived this morning, all swapped over ready for tonight so will see how it goes.

TBH even if it cures the comfort/back pain issue I think the mattress is still way too hot for me to live with long term, I can't imagine how bad it would be in the peak summer months.

For anyone that's interested, Debenhams have the Eve mattress at 10% off and two free Eve pillows.
Some Debenhams and Fenwicks stores have them on display to try out also.
