Can you get a King Size better for £800 in retail shops?

Been looking at the John Ryan Origins 1500 Pocket mattress. Comes to a nudge over £800 with the divan base to go with it.

Would I be better off buying my own base or should I go with the one they supply?

I did label it an extravagance... If I didn't think it was a bit mad I'd have said nothing about it!

Fact is I have some savings to spend on a flat I'm buying so I allocated a fair wedge of it on something to lie on for 8 hours a day.

8 hours a day over, let's say, 10 years and suddenly it's value starts to seem fair - at least that's what I'm telling myself

I do like the info http://www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk gives about beds and sales tactics, it's been a good read

Also the sleep council recommend mattresses be changed every 7 years, thoughts on is ?

Had my john ryan/factory beds direct mattress for 2.5 years now. Still looks and feels brand new, not the slightest sign it's been used! Worth every penny.

Which one did you go for?

I'm trying to suss out whether I should just get the mattress from there and source my own divan base and headboard from elsewhere.

I got the 1500 pocket sprung double. Im using it on an existing ikea frame. They say it needs a flat base so i got some mdf and lay it over the slats to make a base.

Another vote for Tempur here. I never thought I'd spent £2k on a matress but we spent about a week trying all different shops and types of matress not really looking at the cost.

The Tempur ones for us as a couple were by far the best we tried and we just went for it, we spend a lot of time in bed

Looking for a mattress ourselves now and out to test a few tonight. The thought of spending £1k on a mattress is bonkers, but I really hate my bed right now. It's really old and I'm sure a nice new one would feel like a million dollars! Anyone tried a Hypnos ones from Mattressman vs the Factory Beds Direct?

looks like restus went into administration over the weekend so i wont be getting this mattress

so need a pocket spring double, any other recommendations?

Think we're gonna plump for the Origins 1500 king size with matching 4 drawer divan from John Ryan. Phoned up and the chap on the phone was mega helpful thinks the delivery should be fairly quick as we are in the Greater Manchester area too.

Would have gone for the matching headboard too but they are a bit on the pricey side, however, i've no doubt the quality is fantastic.

Tempted with the origins pocket 1500 or the origins pocket latex 1500

We're quite used to put aging orthopaedic mattress and John Ryan say the latex would suit us better as it will me more firmer than the non Latex version

Russ how do you find yours? Is medium ok, don't find it too soft?
