Mattresses - I need knowledge

why is this so hard..

obviously to decide on a mattress you need to try it, but 5 mins in a store is way too short. how do stores deal with cases of "I've slept on it for a week and it's really uncomfortable"? do consumer rights apply here at all?

Bar the eve/simba etc I can't see any crystal clear "no quibble" returns policies?
 
I've ordered a Leesa, going to give it a try. If I don't like it then it's going back and I'll go with John Ryan.
 
We just bought a Sealy Nostramo 1400. Very comthy but a little warm... we had an expensive latex toper and now use that and its cool again. Recon we will take off latex toper when it gets chilly
 
Looking at a simba myself the reviews look almost too good to be true plus 100day money back trial is a sweetener. Whats the difference between the Leesa, John Ryan and Simba particularly Leesa and Simba as they look very similar.
 
Well, just ordered a Casper 2018. Supposed to be a good all-rounder and introduction to foam mattresses.

Had been a toss-up between Casper 2018 (£295), Emma Hybrid (£360) and Simba (£399 - no discounts found).

Whilst the Simba and esp Emma Hybrid are more complex mattresses, given that I'm going in mostly blind (despite doing my homework there's no real substitute for experience sleeping on them), the lower price of the Casper swung it for me.

There's a great reviewer on YT called Alan Ross Reviews, who really does like to review mattresses :)

Until your back gives out :p Sadly being close to 40 now the old back needs consideration and mollycoddling like never before.

Hmm, after considering a latex mattress by John Ryan, I've decided to go for the Sealy Teramo mattress. Partly due to the cost and also because of the possibly inconvenience of having to book time off work to get the JR mattress delivered and returned (if needed).
 
Had an eye on all these brands for a while, spotted an Eve in the sale (£650 down to £350 ish) so have ordered one to see how it goes.
 
From Very, I spotted it via HUKD as there’s a 20% code to get the full discount.

Assume it still has the 100 day return ...
 
I had a quick scan of the terms but couldn’t see anything. I notice that the Eve via Next certainly includes the 100 day trial so don’t think it’s as clear cut as direct only.
 
We are purchasing our first home and currently looking for a mattress which is proving rather difficult with so much choice and options.

Pretty much all of them have very good and very bad reviews which I guess makes sense considering everyone is different.

Will have to try few in shops and bite the bullet on whatever we like the most :D
 
Just ordered a Emma matress directly from there site. £489 it came to for King size with 100 day trial and alleged 10year guarantee. I laid on one in DFS and out of them all it was my favourite so bit the bullet.
 
After ordering a Silent Night Gleep Genius (1400 I think) for the main bedroom, I picked up a 2000 version for the spare room as it was on deal in John Lewis. All I can say is this mattress if even more comfortable than the 1400 I have in the spare room, I would swap them around but they're different sizes.

Mattress and pillow choices are really down to how you sleep. As a side sleeper I've really come to learn that firm pillows work much better for me and can really vouch for John Lewis' firm Hungarian duck down pillows. They're not cheap but worth every penny. I bought Hungarian down pillows with a feather core from M&S for the spare room and they're just not as supportive as the John Lewis ones.
 
Had my Simba mattress for about 6 months now and very pleased with it. Their pillows are awful though, unless you want something that weighs a tonne and is pretty much solid.

I am considering Simba also but slightly concerned at amount of reviews saying their mattress is useless after a year, being completely deformed.

A few weeks later, the Casper seems... OK. I can't really compare it to anything but my previous mattress, which was deformed to all hell and back.

I do have one complaint with the Casper tho - the smell in the days (a fair while, it must be said) after unboxing was pure evil. The most horrific lung-bursting chemical smell, which left my throat feeling rough the next morning. It permeated all my sheets and duvet; I've stripped everything off now and put it all in the washing machine, whilst I sleep in the spare room.

It is supposed to be one of the worst for this, and I knew this before buying - but sheesh. It's so awful I think had I know just how bad I wouldn't have bought it. Or would have put it in the garage for a month :p
