A catholic who wanted to marry a protestant would live in fear of being shunned by their family & more likely than not the man would end up being 'kneecapped'.
I like how you slanted that to make it appear like there would only be "bitterness" on the Catholic side of the fence. I know quite a few people with mixed marrigages, no kneecappings or "shunnings" were part of it. And these were mainly done in the 70's.
Not exactly sure what authority you're basing this off either. Kneecappings were mainly dished out to joyriders or local hoods.
