I like how you slanted that to make it appear like there would only be "bitterness" on the Catholic side of the fence. I know quite a few people with mixed marrigages, no kneecappings or "shunnings" were part of it. And these were mainly done in the 70's.

Not exactly sure what authority you're basing this off either. Kneecappings were mainly dished out to joyriders or local hoods.

Let's remember this is more a cultural issue than a religious one. The kind of unbelievable fanatical/medieval behaviour we point a finger at with our mouths wide open is more down to cultural failings than religious ones. It just seems that the kind of cultures where this generally happens also seem to be bed fellows with Islam...

Conversion from what ? some equally deluded Christians no doubt but I can guarantee it won't be some atheists you managed to entrap & convert.

People who avidly believe in religions based on ancient myths & legends can also be seen queuing up outside Gypsy caravans at Blackpool to have their fortune told, lol & then go & get the Sun to read their horoscope & ardently believe how amazingly accurate it is because clever words can mean a multitude of different things to thousands of people.

The world is full of mediums,charlatans & fakes pretending to be in contact with the dead, laughable attempts to prove there are ghosts, monsters etc but with modern technology there is not one single proven account of anything unless you accept shaky blurred out of focus images.

Lourdes is a massive cash cow based on some deluded simple peasant girls apparent vision in 1858 where annually 5 million of the worlds crippled & dying visit & but still hobble away & die minus £££.

Just reading the story of Bernadette Soubirous & her 'visions' shows how simple minded villagers have unintentionally misled millions of gullible people.

There's nothing wrong with "religion" itself TipTop, whatever the religion may be. It's a portion of the people that skew it that are the problem and it's always the problems that are given the most attention in the media and in turn the media itself is a problem these days because they never give you the whole story, only what gives then rating$$$.

Lack of morals and respect is what's going downhill for humankind now. In the past religion kept people respectful of others (on the whole) yet today with that going out the window more people are either using religion as a utility to spread their own agenda or use it as a basis for hate.

I don't think religion = nice people, or religion = morals. It's an easy assumption to make, but I don't see any real relationship between them.

Infact if we take the current topic, religion is actually resulting in people threatening to kill... Or actually kill...

I have no belief in a God or prophet etc, but I live my life to a fairly moralistic strandard for example.

TBH, I believe good behaviour and good morals are more down to a good upbringing/education etc, than a believe in some invisible deity...

The suggestion if we all lost faith in magical all powerful Gods, that the world would fall to pieces seems like nonsense to me. If anything, without religious 'magic' to save you after death, life becomes even more precious!
 
People will interpret differently and that is what causes them to threaten others and become extremists or whatever. We already know different groups of people interpret religion differently, who s right and who is wrong when compared for a 1:1 with religion nobody can be sure any more because religion has been changed so many times and shifted through evolution over the generations that today we have several types of Islam and its followers.

What point is there in your religion & why do you apparently think you can't live without it ? What do you think would happen to you if you renounced it?

Religion is always based on fear in one form or another albeit from reprisals for heresy or simply in the vast majority the fear of denouncing the existence of god & fear of everlasting suffering in the presumed afterlife.

Islam is now perceived as the religion of extremists & headcases the world over, rampaging mobs of banner wavers & flag burners jumping in effigies of 'infidels ' is totally laughable & i would think a total embarrassment to any rationals

LOL im not here to convert people to my faith...if they do then their choice isnt it??. Funnily enough Atheists and their sort are a laughable lot...thinking that everything can be explained via a scientific method lol.

Haha, great fail there. If you hadn't noticed, it's actually taking the **** out of religion. Or if you really thought they were calling those people idiots - who happened to be some of the greatest geniuses that ever lived - then you're crazy. :p
