This thread is a perfect example of why the like button is a terrible idea. Let's say everyone agreed with you, this thread would be 5 replies, and 200 likes. Not exactly an interesting thread to read. I can read everyone's opinions because they have to express it.

The like button is a lazy option to say thanks. What's wrong with someone writing thanks?. If you want a like l style reply, just so it and say like when you quote a post. Why is that not enough for you?

Sure but 20 posts saying “Thanks” isn’t ideal, for example.

Yes it's is better than 1 post with a hidden like counter.

Look at this thread. Scan through and it's clearly full of no thanks posts. 20 replies saying thanks is far more useful for readers, then 1 post with a thanks counter.

What would be the purpose of repeating the same opinion? Seems like a like button would improve readability.

That doesn’t happen. All the other forums that use it people still post if they have something to add.

Because you can then see clearly the opinion of those in the thread. Just as this thread shows the opinion so clearly that people don't want this feature, you can see that because of the replies posted.

Either people would still continue to reply, making it pointless to add. Or people would reduce replying making the threads less useful to other readers.

If you post some advice that later on someone quotes and says thanks this worked for me, I can then see perhaps I should read that advice again and consider it.

Where as if your advice just had 1 thank counter to it I may have brushed over it and not took it in.

It’s moot anyway, mods aren’t open to the idea.

To be fair, I’m glad. I like that this forum is stuck in the dark ages in terms of not having all the modern crap on other forums. It’s why I like the Pistonheads forums as well.

Minimal and means I can just concentrate on the content

It's probably more the fact that OcUK/Pistonheads are full of old gits stuck in their ways, talking about the good old days when Argos catalogues used to sell walkmans :p

And that :D

You'll just have to sit content in the knowledge that people enjoy your minimal desk photo pictures, without the like button

I'm a huge fan of the upvote/downvote system on Reddit, but that's because it actually has a proper function to it... there are way too many responses and posts and it allows the low quality stuff to filter out whilst the good stuff floats to the top...

A like/dislike/thanks/reaction button on a fixed and single-threaded forum like this one seems almost completely pointless... the threads read like discussions and even though some members like to bait and troll a bit sometimes you can't start filtering based on feedback without losing the progression of that conversation... As for feedback on posts, who cares? I don't need a like count on a post to understand whether or not I like it myself or not, I don't care if the things I post are liked or not, and the forum is meant to be inclusive not some kind of weird elitist environment or popularity contest

That's a no from me :p

You think this is some sort of democracy?!

Breaking news! Meme's have been leaking from the mods forum overnight showing what really goes on behind the closed doors of the upper echelons. I managed to screenshot this one before the mole of the people was ousted and dealt with like an invited guest to the Saudi Embassy.

I would like a "Like" button. Sometime i wholly agree with someone but not necessary have something worthwhile to contribute. It might stop some unnecessary spam posting! Worth thinking about.

It doesn't make a thread less useful if you remove some of the clutter. If a piece of advice has a bunch of likes on it then it is clearly useful. I'd suggest taking a look at some forums that implement it, you'll find it doesn't stop replies etc..
