Mclaren-Honda MP4-30 *** 2015 Launch Thread

If honda can reproduce the power from dyno to the track then the engine will have a chance.

Reliability between systems will be key.

Honda should've been brought on board last Summer and if needed, they could've ran a different engine in every race (taking a grid penalty), while working on reliability. At least this would've meant that they started this season on an (almost) even keel.

I'm sure you've said this before, if not it was someone else, but it's pretty obvious that this sort of scenario is virtually impossible on so many levels. Contract issues, sponsorship issues, engineering issues - the list of obstacles is massive.

Unoriginal Livery is unoriginal..

Lets hope its faster than a HRT

Quite, but the sky is a rather different colour on sunama's world....

I did quite a basic reply to this claim, I think it was in another thread. I couldn't understand why there weren't more replies of a more advanced nature explaining the folly of such an idea. :p

So Scarb's analysis, well worth a read... hope I'm not breaking any rules by saying that a few designs have gone back to conventions (good thing), some clever little details on the car to improve air flow and info on the engine being reportedly stronger than Merc's 2014... copying the same principles in design, split turbo, low heat rejection yadayada.

Its like drowning in wallpaper paste... They could've done so much better! I know F1 is all about money and prestige but where's the fun?! I'm sure they could've gone a bit more wild.

Homoligation. Unless Honda have a time machine they would have struggled to have got any engine they ran in latter half of the year homoligated by the Feb 28th 2014 deadline :p

Well why are you saying that NOW?! :D Get into Honda's time machine, go back a few days and post in the thread just after I did.

I actually quite like it - could have been a lot worse.....

Not sure how? Would have looked better if they'd done the whole car flat black ffs.

What winds me up is this was they're opportunity to do something refreshing, reignite the old Honda partnership colours and do something cool. They just completely bottled it.

Don't get me wrong I'm a McLaren fan, but gosh, they just don't give anyone a reason to want to like them. It's a bit painful really.

Dont know why people keep referring to the old colour scheme as 'Honda Colours'

The red and white was due to Marlboro sponsorship which dictated the colours. They probably wouldn't be allowed to use the red and white scheme again due to it being linked to 'cigarette branding' which as we know is now banned.

I also read that one reason McLaren use the chrome paint is so that sponsors logos stand out to their fullest. You have to think with a commercial mind when talking about branding/colours on cars

Of course you can use red and white, no one was expecting the same livery but white is the traditional Honda colour (even Bar Honda had white/red).

Just seems strange to use a livery that harks back to the days of West/Mercedes rather than reflecting the change that has happened with a fresh new look.

I thought the silver colour represented arrows/mercedes so having that instead of white just seems bizarre, but what do I know. Some blue pinstripes around the red would have looked nice but at the end of the day it's all about performance, we'll forget the livery after Alonso wins in Australia :D
