Mcleish quits Birmingham

SkySportsNews Sky Sports News
Sky Sources: Aston Villa have contacted Birmingham over Alex McLeish. Full Story on SSN Evening Report.

Haha oh wow if that's true.

And we certainly don't want a second rate ex-manager of a second rate team at ours, thanks.

No offence but Randy Learner and the other Villa board must be pretty damn stupid to even make an enquiry over Mcleish. They must be interested in what Mcleish has to offer to the club. But everyone knows its criminal to cross over the border to the other derby team, they seem to be brainless !!!

I honestly dont think Birmingham would let him go that easily either. I seriously don't want him, he's really not that good, and not of the standard we'd expect. The longer all this drags on, the longer Mark Hughes looks certain to land it.

We don't want McCleish at the Villa. Besides obviously coming from the Blues, one League cup win does not disguise the fact he's been relegated twice in three seasons, at a very very dismal football club.

I would win the SPL with Rangers, so any success there is irrelevent.

Currently, and somewhat disappointingly, Mark Hughes is looking the only viable option now, which is worrying in itself.

What did you think of Martin O'Neil? He bested him while at Rangers with less money and a team of Dick Advocaat's duds.

If you were happy with O'Neil I think McLeish is of similar quality to him.

Martin O'Neill was a breath of fresh air initially, he invigorated us and led a serious assault on the top 4 in his first two seasons, but I got increasingly frustrated with his demands for funds when he'd squandered a huge amount on players such as Reo-Coker, Davies and Cuellar, and his refusal to blood some of our fantastic young players (Albrighton, Clark, Bannan) who at least Houllier had faith in. Come the end, I was glad to see him go, I felt we needed a change.

At least Martin O'Neill had some success in England - he led Wycombe into and up the league and then over-achieved at Leicester before his move into Mickey Mouse football North of the border. And at least he didn't manage the Blues.

I would say McLeish did better in Scotland than O'Neil did given the resources they had. O'Neill was a funny one, he did well at Wycombe and Leicester, but at Celtic and Villa he seemed to become a chequebook manager more than anything else.

I have a soft spot for Villa as they were my English team growing up, Id quite like to see McLeish there as I rate him and think he could do well, id certainly much rather see him there than Hughes, the guy they should go for is Derek McInnes at St Johnstone.

Dismal? And what have you won in the past 15 years? I'd rather have the excitement of regular promotion and relegation battles than mid-table mediocrity for year after year after year :p

Brum City are going to lodge an official complaint tomorrow to the PL and FA regarding tapping up of their manager.

Cant see this being over in time for season start.

How could they tap him up though. Mangers job going, PL club, he's just been relegated, chance to get right back managing a PL team, will get higher wages he won't have even needed to talk to them about his wages any way. What could happen, make him stay at Brum when he wants to leave. They just seem to be clutching at straws here. I doubt they would be doing this if he was going to Chelsea, it's only because it's Villa.

Plus to add to all of that the LMA released a statement on behalf of McLeish building a case for his resignation...pretty crazy goings on right now...
