*****MENTAL NVIDIA GTX 470 DEALS - PRICES from £164.99 Delivered!!*****

thinking about getting the cheapest one, firstly will my 520w corsair handle it? its a pretty stable psu, also will it fit in my coolermaster cm690 case?

Will my c2d @ 2.8ghz hold it back a lot, i need something to replace my 9800gtx which is starting to struggle at 1920x1080.

thank you.

There are 6970's yea but i still don't think they will beat this deal on price. Amd may shock us and bring a monster card to the table at £350 but this kind of deal is hard to resist if you are playing lots of games atm.

Your psu will be fine, also from a quick glance at customer reviews of the cm 690, the 470 will fit ok as well.

cant get the soc's due to the pci-e slot layout on my ud5
just read on another forum that the middle fan clips the lower card if its directly below it !
**** !
there goes my 470 dream, oh well back to more pondering

If anybody is worried about the heat/noise issue, I'd suggest going with the Gainward Golden Sample - £20 more than the cheapest GTX 470 on here, but you get a better cooler that keeps noise and temps down. (search for the tweaktown review on the GTX 470 Golden Sample)

The above cooler is also dual slot, so will only take up the same amount of space as the standard reference HSF.

Could you do a run in dx10 ultra no fsaa at 1920x1080 for stalker?

You asked and here it is ;)

Really tempted by the Gainward....will I see much difference upgrading to one of these from my GTX 280 other than getting DX11? Also not sure whether Vista 64 is DX11 capable? according to dxdiag I have Direct X version 11. I thought it was only Windows 7 :s

This bench is based on the 285 gtx, (bit faster than a 280) versus the 470, should give you a rough idea of the difference in performance.

Thanks for the link :) but now it's made it quite hard to decide what to do, I was thinking it may have been a little faster than that, I'll probably just wait for the next round of new offerings, I only really play Bad Company 2 anyway and my current card isn't exactly struggling to run that, I just wanted a shiny new card :p

I love these posts, banned yourself. Is your moral crusade reflected in the rest of your life or is it just reserved for gfx cards ?

I have a few companies I won't trade with Nvidia is one, Foxconn is another but its certainly not limited to tech companies by any means.

Finally got around to fitting the 2nd GTX470... power supply seems upto the task so far tho I haven't tried any extreme overclocks til I've seen how things go temps wise. So far not noticed any extra noise over a single card except in furmark lol.

Very nice Rroff, what make did you go for? Mind if i ask what temps are like, even with both at stock?

85C in things like heaven benchmark with stock clocks :( so it quite a bit warmer than a single card - might not get as good OCs with both in... that said hardly needing any OCs the performance is really nice as it is :D

EDIT: That is with the fan profile running 15% below the level it starts to become noticeable so theres a little bit of give there.

Does gaming push the temps up much? Been playing black ops all evening and my single card hits about 77c on auto fan, still only clocked at 750mhz though.

My single GTX470 was topping out at 77C @ 800MHz on auto fan... I'm hitting 85C with intensive benchmarks on auto fan and with a profile designed to stay below 60% fan speed with the SLI setup with just default clocks - so quite a bit of extra heat to deal with - gonna have to look at my cooling before I try overclocking again.

I'll try a bit of normal gaming in a bit see what temps that produces.

EDIT: Playing MW2 it flat lines out at 75C on both cards on stock clocks with auto fan while still well below the level the fan noise is noticeable.
