Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

Had a new facelift CLS Shooting Brake courtesy car recently, always been a fan of them, the 'estate coupe' design is quite unique.

Surprisingly nimble for a long car. The engine was the 220 which they're now doing (was previously a 250 as the lowest spec engine), it's not bad and you can barely hear it most of the time. Didn't feel underpowered but not particularly quick either.

The Multibeam LED light system was very good too.

Not sure I can get used to the 'iPad' on the dash, it's not that bad but looks like a bit of an afterthought. Looks like they've managed to resist putting it on the new E Class, which is a start.

I really like the CLS Shooting Brake. How's the boot though? Is it significantly smaller than an E Estate?

It's not as tall as the E Class estate, but seems roughly the same length, perhaps a little longer. The actual opening isn't as wide (or tall) though, from what I could tell.

That's very nice, be interesting to see what you think to it.

The latest (and last) SLK design is a big improvement, I think, being a mini SL.

That is why it has caught my interest. Pretty low mileage, not too old, some decent options. They sure have come down in price a lot. Would still like to get that price down a bit, there are a few cheaper options out there - there is a white one with a few better options for £28k, but it has red seats and they don't really do it for me! I will report back on the test drive. I am most curious about the brakes, I wonder how they will stack up against my performance pack fully floating monsters.

Interior looks better than the previous gen. But the exterior really doesn't. Super weedy looking brakes, albeit cheaper to replace.

Is it really going to be ~£15k better. Hard choice to make to be fair. I'd still keep the R171.

OOo first time entering in this thread as I now have the 221 :D

Spent a good couple of hours installing EPC and Asra last night. Horrific piece of software compared to other manufacturers but it is what it is !

I disagree. I think the both the interior + exterior look way better than the previous gen. Whats wrong with the brakes?

They almost fill the whole inside of the wheel...don't think they could physically fit if they were bigger?

How is this relevant?

The cost of this car it's purchase price minus its residual plus cost of capital and the cost of keeping his current car is its value now minus its residual. It's the difference between these two numbers that is the actual cost of upgrading, not the cost to change of the deal.

The R171 05 and 06 years had the 6 pot 2 piece floating front brakes and 4 pot rears. The R172 does not, so there should be a difference in braking and it would be interesting to see how much difference it makes. It was offered as an option from 07 onwards due to the cost.

Of course it is relevant. The man has an R171 SLK55 and is looking at the R172 SLK55, so for me the value for money would have to be considerable to consider the next generation of the same vehicle. It would have to be exponentially better surely to be worth it.
