Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

I think its the quattro system which ups the price of the warranty. They wanted over £900 for my old TT, to which I declined. I wanted less £600 for warranty tbh, it didn't make sense to pay close to a grand.

We have several Mercedes company cars and the service costs are always fairly high. A B service on our E220 Coupe recently was around £700 and nothing special was done.

It's probably worth getting a maintenance package in future, but on cars with high annual mileage this tends to be expensive as well.

Well I finally have her home, such horrible weather for the first drive! She drives beautifully - so responsive and so controlled. Have only driven in Eco mode so far, but the gear changes are so smooth (I don't even notice it changing) and the steering so light and precise. Seems to have much better torque across the band compared to my previous 55. The suspension is more comfortable (not the optional performance version - a welcome change actually) and the car feels significantly more planted. The engine note is fantastic too, even with the roof up and in Eco mode - significantly better than my R171 with xpipe.

I did, however, fill up with regular unleaded 95Ron, only to read in the manual to only put super unleaded 98Ron in....oops!

Very rainy today, so gave her a quick hose down before all the grime dried on. Seems to have a decent layer of protection, so all came off easily.

Need a sunny day to put the top down, put it into sport mode and give it the beans :D

Looks great, I'd prefer it in a more adventurous colour though. It's got so many lines that are just lost in the blandness :(

To add to what I posted earlier having given it some very spirited driving on Welsh country roads...

The much bigger gap between C and S mode is fantastic - I can actually use either now depending on my driving style, whereas I only ever used to use S. Eco with very low revs and insanely impressive fuel economy (30mpg+ is seriously impressive with the cylinder deactivation considering it is a 5.5L V8). S mode really aggressive gearing and better holding of lower gears.

The biggest plus for me is how much more usable the R172s power is. Even in our cold winter with salt on the road and the same make of tyre, I am managing to get much, much more power down and with significantly less traction control coming on than in the R171...I find myself trying hard to get it to come on now rather than trying hard to avoid the wheelspin. Combined with much more responsive paddle shifting in M mode and rev matching (OMG those throttle blips!!!), the R172 really is a dream to drive. Without the performance suspension it also bounces less over the bumps and feels so much more settled.

Can't complain about having the top down in the winter, with air scarf on low, heated seats on low, heating relatively low and being lovely and toasty in the cockpit with minimal air intrusion.

Just need to replace my private plate with my new private plate once my old plate has been assigned. Why oh why didn't I just get my new plate before the dealer submitted this batch of paperwork :p

Nice car, but it's 'It' not 'She'. It hasn't got female sexual accoutrement :p

I'm not normally a grammar Nazi (or whatever the correct term is for this), but people are referring to inanimate objects as 'he' or 'she' increasingly often and it's bloody irritating.

Whilst my car is very firmly an 'it' you realise there is a tradition going back hundreds of years where this sort of thing is a she? How do you feel about ships, it's almost universally accepted that a ship is 'she'.

Had a bit of a vibration at speed which turned out to be the driver side front control arm bush being pretty badly worn. Along with a bit of play in one of the top joints, I decided to order some bits and this lot turned up yesterday:

Hoping it'll freshen/tighten up the front end considerably!

Currently have a new A45 AMG for the weekend (381bhp), good lord it's savage!

Too fast and thrashy for normal driving, really, but great fun.

E350 BlueTEC Estate AMG Night Edition

Thinking of buying a 65 plate Mercedes E350 BlueTEC Estate AMG Night Edition with the new 9 speed box. Has anyone had experience of this model? Any opinions or advice appreciated thanks.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it - I have to sell my R171 due to my increased mileage meaning I'm spending £300/month on fuel.

Now I'm sitting here, considering finding another £15k for an R172 just so I can save probably £50/month on petrol ;)

You could probably get that off the new one when it comes out next month anyway. E classes always seem to have mad money off them. As well as surprisingly strong residuals.
