Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

Yeah it's not a 'real' AMG in that sense and it's not built in Affalterbach. Still, 0-60 in 4.9 though. :o

They've just copied Audi's strategy. People think an S5 is equivalent to an M4, when the reality is very different. Still nice though.

Calling the S5 S5 instead of A5 3.0TFSI S Line which is what it really is was a stroke of marketing genius. There are people all over the internet who shortlist used ones with M3s and regard the 335i as some sort of lesser car..

Deposit placed for E220d SE estate. £380 per month pcp with carwow discounts, deposit contributions, and £2k 'diesel changeover bonus' for my Volvo S80, on top of the p/x value, which was a nice surprise!

Spec is:

- cavansite blue metallic, beige leather, black ash wood trim
- premium plus package (including sun roof, upgraded sound system, keyless stuff, and upgraded LED headlights)
- comand online and wide-screen dials (full 2 X 12.3 inch displays)
- heated windscreen
- 360 camera

Considered the driver aid package but at £1.6k it was just too much. Also skipped the air suspension as on 17s the ride was really nice.

Should be a nice family car for a few years, after which I hope I can afford a proper engine :p. Though I was pleasantly surprised by the new 4 pot in the 220d cars, and it will do 60mpg...if I'm allowed to mention that!

That's a very nice spec! Got almost the same colour combo in the A class and it looks great.

I also thought the driver aid pack was a bit on the steep side - seems to be about the same price across the model ranges as an option but it was quite tempting because, well, toys!

Assuming it's a factory order - what's the lead time on them these days?

Even the suspension on the AMG Line with 19's is comfortable, it has 'Agility control suspension', whether that can slacken things off a bit I don't know, but it's really comfortable and still handles well.

I'm a big fan of the E class interior and the estate is something I considered (the saloon just looks too much like a taxi :() . Great car.

People think that an RS5 is equivalent to the M4. The closest equivalent to the 'S' cars have been the MSport x35i.

The RS5 is equivalent to the M4, but the S5 is angled as if it's an absolute top end car when it's really a 440i competitor. Clever marketing and it works.

I do find the average arrogance of the A5/S5 owners whom I know, to be considerably greater than the 3xx or 4xx series owners but then they are all notably wealthier.

Back to Mercs, having decided to go for an E-class this car change, I now cannot get a competitive lease deal compared to when I started looking a few months ago then put on hold (25k pa miles 36 month). I had settled on an E350d in the AMG Line trim.
