Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

Yup CLS55 as Jez said :)

I always felt the stock exhaust didn’t give enough of a V8 sound so the changes I made make it a bit more obvious but not OTT - though everyone’s got their own threshold for what’s acceptable :p

There are a few aftermarket valve exhausts available which would do automatic switching (with manual switching options if you prefer) if you want the flexibility. Depends on the car though and they usually sit as replacements for the rear silencers rather than the center one. They’re not cheap though!

AMG or not, it'll still have a nice V8 sound if opened up a little.

I think I know the type you mean - a sort of valved Y section with a key fob remote? I think they were around that sort of price when I last looked. You could have them bypass the center silencer instead - not sure which would be better for sound though.

Another option that seems to be recommended often is to get the 63 AMG rear silencers to replace yours and keep the rest of the system as-is. Not sure what they go for price wise though.

I've never used the iCarsoft so can't comment on that. But I have one of the STAR clone multiplexers hooked up to an old Dell D630 running in Developer mode. Bought it as a 'kit' ages ago when I first got the car and it's easily paid for itself diagnosing a few faults and doing a few other bits and pieces (SBC disable for brakes replacement, secondary air pump disable on startup, alarm siren chirp etc etc). It was absolutely invaluable in fault finding Airmatic issues.

You get a whole load extra info and data with the diagnostics and specific system/module tests with STAR that you just can't do with a generic OBD2 reader.

Well i plan to go look at few more CLS this weekend, both are diesel this time one is a 320cdi and the other is 350cdi grand edition. It going to be a early start as i would like to make it back for the football. I also found a CL55AMG whats not far from the area i will be in, love them and they seem to a good 2nd buy these days taking into consideration how much they where to buy, if you willing to take the risk with the potential costly repair of the ABC suspension. Anyone have any experience with them?

Yep, I have a CLS55 - not much that goes wrong with them really. The biggest (read, most expensive) risks are the Airmatic (not ABC) suspension and related system and the SBC braking system pump.

They share a lot of their chassis and parts with the E class but the usual AMG parts prices apply so general maintenance is a bit more expensive than average but it's not ridiculous compared to some cars with similar performance - just don't expect dirt cheap motoring and have some spare cash just in case should a big bill crop up.

Age and mileage related wear will be starting to show so usual checks of suspension components and brakes etc. Happy to answer any specific questions (or at least try to!)

Thanks, but the CLS55 AMG what i would love!!! is just out of my price range. I found a CL 55 AMG that i was tempted by but was put off by the ABC system, but i have decided that i would like a CLS. The diesels i test drove where great, but didn't have me grinning like the CLS500 I drove the other weekend. PS very jealous that you have CLS55, what colour is it?

Sorry, my mistake, I misread CL for CLS on your other post. Yeah, I was a bit put off by ABC when I looked at CL's before I got my CLS, but by the same token, others have nothing but good things to say about it!

My CLS is Obsidian Black with Piano Black trim inside. Some pics in the first post of this thread :)

Been a while!

So, I officially left the AMG club about a month ago when I sold my CLS and went for something a little different. It was a pretty enjoyable 5 years of ownership and has hopefully gone on to a good home. Still got the A180 so not left the Mercedes fold altogether - but it's not quite the same! :p

The 63 models are going to be dying off. They'll be going the way the CLS did and have the hybrid inline-6. I think that all of the meaty AMGs will be special models under the Mercedes-AMG brand. It looks like it's heading that way with the CLS53 and AMG GT 4 door.

Yep, that was my thought looking at the current range so will have to see how things pan out. May be that the older ones will be the ones to go for (and I'll probably regret selling my 55!) - shame really but all the big names are going the same way so...
