Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

There's not many out; I've got my name down to try one; More news in August about a demonstrator at my local place. We'll see.

Yeah I've asked to have a test drive when they have one but apparently won't be any time soon. I don't think I'd ever buy one given I've got so used to the size with the estate in the C43, but...you never know :p

I have the A45 currently, so providing it's a good upgrade (it's not so much the extra power, but the better gearbox and more power to the rear wheels configuration)

I'll know more in August, so fingers crossed I can get in one then :)

Aren't they being priced around £50k ? I couldn't face paying that sort of money for a hatchback and the associated downgrade in materials compared to the more premium models in their range

When you consider it'll be a family hatchback with similar power to a 996 Turbo it doesn't seem so crazy anymore.

I wouldn't be spending that sort of money on a hatchback with my own money no matter how fast, but different tastes and all that.

But it does, as I said the associated downgrade in materials is the obvious thing. I've never looked at a 996 Turbo but I'm guessing it would be better nailed together using better materials compared with an A Class all be it the A Class would have more modern technology.

As you say, its horses for courses, its just an insane amount of money for what you are getting.

Have you looked inside the latest A-Class, not sure how you can't say it isn't premium? It's no less premium than a 5 series or A4/5, both of which have taken a significant downgrade over the last two models in their "premium" feel.

Looks very premium to me

Looks are not everything and the materials are not quite up to the same standard as a B9 A4, seeing as I have one When I drove the cla there is some hard plastic, plus the switches don't feel as good as the Audi. However the car isn't really in the same class of car....

I'm not saying it may not look premium. I was basically saying an A Class isn't built as well and doesn't potentially use a good materials compared to a C Class and the C Class isn't as well built as an E Class etc. and at £50k+ I would have hoped that it did

Drove an a35 a few weeks back. Cabin is pretty premium tbh, even when compared to bigger cars. One of the few cars I’d consider downsizing too. Just because it’s small shouldn’t mean low rent.

Correct, it is compatible, in terms of quality of plastics it's probably up there with the current A3. In terms of technology it is streets ahead, until the 2020 A3 comes out. However we'll need to wait and see on that.
I drove an A180 series hatchback and it was a appalling car to drive, poor urban ride, gearbox that couldn't work out which gear to be in and a nasty rasping engine. However the new CLA was a pleasure to drive. Different rear suspension, different engine and, I assume, a different gearbox and a wider track all made it an improvement over the hatchback.
I have A250 CLA on the way so I will post up my findings once I have the car

how do you all go about servicing?

I had one of our cars serviced by Elite Auto Centres and they told me after the service they couldn't reset the service light it can only be done by mercedes main dealership.

I dont really want to be taking the cars to the main dealerships due to the costs. So what do you all do with the servicing?

Have always gone to main dealers. I know it's more expensive but I always trade my cars in to dealers when I buy new cars, so that knocks value down quite a lot if it doesn't have FDSH

Find yourself a quality Independent Mercedes specialist, and they will have the equipment needed both to reset your service light, and to maintain your digital service record with Mercedes.

I use Nick Spencer near Macclesfield for my C63, and they're great.

I have had a look on the web cant see Nick Spencer, we're based in Stoke.

Wheres the best place to find these independent Mercedes Specialists?

We've just had one of our new C-Class Mercedes Serviced and they were unable to reset the service light.

If shiny plastic is your idea of premium.

maybe you should go and have a sit, you might change your mind. id says its better than the most of the current small cars in audi's lineup inc a4, definately most BMW's. Merc are owning interiors right now on their new stuff.
