Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

If shiny plastic is your idea of premium.
There are lot's of shiny plastic bits in my G30 BMW 5 Series which is considered premium - Door handles, steering center section (as above Merc photo), Climate dials, iDrive wheel, dash trim surrounds, screen surround, auto stick.
It's actually quite hard to tell the difference between the silver plastic and the metal parts.

That doesn't make it premium - the glossy plastic isn't really acceptable when BMW do it either.

I was a bit disappointed in the Merc interiors when I was looking for something end of last year.

Sounds petty but the plastic cheap feeling silver buttons on the dash of the C and E class bothered me!

They didn’t look too bad, but just felt very cheap and flimsy when pressing them, when they look like they’ll be nice solid metal items.

As said a really petty thing but both the wife and I said how it made it feel cheap, and that was in the C and and an E class (E was a cab).

That said, if the dealer had taken my offer on the C63 I’d have been happy with it :) (they sold the car 4 months later after dropping the asking to below what I’d offered).

I also tested a previous model A45, interior didn’t feel too cheap there but just felt very small and cramped inside. I know it’s not a big car, but compared to others in that sector it felt tiny inside. Also the iPad dash screen felt like it was too close towards you, but without being angled towards the driver at all felt a bit awkward to look at.

I have only measured the CLA and compared it with the A4 B9 saloon I currently have. To be honest there's not a lot in it and the CLA has a nearly as large boot than the current c class as well....

Many cars are accused of having a tablet styled screen, there are other brands you know ;-) however like them or loath them they are here to stay.
Where Mercedes have been more adventurous is to rid the cars of the housing for the drivers one. Dare to be different huh?

I don't mind the tablet stuck on dash screens too much regardless of the manufacturer, my issue wasn't with the fact it has one, my current car has one and it's fine (it can be retracted though if need be).

My issue with the A45 I drove was it's positioning, it felt too close and that it would have been better to be 'pushed back' a few inches. If it had been angled a little towards the driver it would have been better, but it wasn't (or didn't seem to be from what I remember), so felt a little awkard to look at.

My current car has one and it's further forward so easier to look at, and the C63 was fine.

I just hate it, it’s not premium in my mind. Mercedes seem to love using it but it doesn’t impress me.

Having driven both the a class and the cla I really didn't notice how close it was really in comparison to the VC in my A4. However that screen does seem to be at a different angle to analogue ones I've been used to in the past. But, like anything different, you tend to ignore it after a while...

Agreed, although it's a spec option to replace the piano black plastic with a wood effect which looks *much* less cheap and nasty, and is nowhere near as much of a PITA to keep clean.

I'm actually looking at swapping out my NTG4 screen with one of the 10" Android tablet screens. I don't mind the tablet-stuck-in-the-dash but like others have said, everything is a bit close. I feel like the rear view mirror in my car is about 2" away from my face.

The new facelift A4 has also gone over to black trim where it has replaced the mmi touchpad and controls with a opening cubby hole, fashion trend. But we need to remember that the A Class is really only a entry level class of car aimed towards a certain buying public. For the elder pipe smoker and slipper wearing owners there are alternatives;-)
I have always considered more recent Mercedes to be Chinese or the US markets which have far greater sales than the UK anyway...

always thought the current and last gen A4 interiors have been cheap and nasty tbh. I tried a current gen A4 when I was looking 18mths ago, couldnt stick it and bought an A6 which is far nicer proposition. Never liked the last gen merc interiors either with the ipad stuck on the dash and the numberpad buttons etc, but the latest MBUX stuff in the current G, E and A class hatchback is pretty nice.

It’s not the instrument cluster, it’s the centre console tablet type screen (we’re talking old model A class here, not the new shiny big screen instead of dials model) :)

I did have a new A4 with VC for a couple of weeks whilst mine was back at the dealer, after the novelty of it being a screen instead of physical dials wore off I could’ve taken or left it.

And seemed silly having the second screen mounted on the centre dash.

Makes sense in the TT where it’s the only screen though!

The only problem with the tt is you are restricted to the drivers display only, fine if you don't carry passengers but no good if you do as then you can't display one thing on the drivers screen, then another for the passenger. Unfortunately no good for me and my partner...
But each to their own..

Current E Class doesn't have MBUX.

Planning on viewing a 14 plate C250 CDI on the weekend anyone have any tips on what to look out for? Checked MOT history and it has only previously failed on one wiper blade.
