Mercedes Benz and AMG Owners

I'm looking for opinions on a C43 - specifically an estate.

I've got a shortlist of M340i touring, S4 Avant and the C43 Estate (And a Macan as a wild card because Porsche)

Good and bad opinions welcome. MPG or the lack thereof :)

I prefer the looks of the BM, the interior of the Audi and the noise of the Merc. :)

The problem I have with the current C Class is the interior is showing its age. The new A Class moves the interior on and no doubt the new C Class will get that.

The petrol S4 has been replaced by a diesel, but the new one does freshen up the looks which make the previous gen look less appealing.

Not sure what the budget is but have you looked at the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43?

Is the M340i touring out yet?

Not quite. Orders will start to be taken in November. I've asked my local BMW if they have a 340i to test but they don't have one. They do have new 3 series which I'll take a look round inside.

Dealerships where I live don't tend to have the tastier cars. Lots of SUVs for the farmers :) Cardiff is more likely to have all 3 (plus the Macan maybe) to try out in a day's visit.

It's the interiors that puts me off most Mercs. I've just never warmed to it.

I'll take a look at the GLC 43. Even though I dropped the Macan in, I'd rather an estate than an SUV (again, maybe)

I have a 17 plate F31 M Sport Plus to change plus finance/loan so say low/mid 40s budget.

Same, it's one of the reasons why I drive an Audi A4 and not a C Class. I am looking to change my car next year and down size (current car is an estate) and top of my list currently is the new A45S. I did consider the C43 but I doubt but the time I come to buy they will have updated the interior and there be 1 year AUC available.

I double checked the GLC and that doesn't appear to have much of an improved interior either..

If I had to make a choice soon, it would be the BMW. It'll be more expensive being new, but I guess you can juggle the finance to make it work.

Think the GLC has only just been facelifted to the most recent C class equivalent interior, so fully digital dash and widescreen display.

I have a 67 plate GLC43 and for me personally, I used to find a lot of aspects of Merc interiors looked bad in photos, but in day to day usage found a lot of the materials and ergonomics were actually good quality and well thought out. I'm really happy with my car and realistically I'll only be upgrading to something bigger rather than something else in the same class, so it'll probably be a GLE, Q7 or RR.

The new GLE looks fantastic but the lack of options in terms of how you can customise the car puts me off a bit.

How do you find the GLC in terms of size? I’ve had an XTrail (last model) and a Santa Fe previously, and get the impression the GLC is smaller than them.

I really like the 2016-2019 C Class interior, it's up there with the BMW interiors. I've always found Audi interiors just so bland and boring that I don't think I'd ever consider them, but the only gripe I have with mine is the screen and the shiny piano black centre console, but that's easily replaced with a matt effect one for a few hundred. The screen is less of an issue now given all the premium brands go with pop up screens or tablets. I actually love the face lift C Class interior on the C43/63 models with the mode selectors on the wheel and the all digital display.

I'll keep the C43 for another 6 months and get the C63S as they're very good money for used facelift ones. A part of me would like to see what the new C Class will look like in a couple of years when released, but I think by then I'll be gone 35 and feeling old so stick myself in an E Class

With a family of 4 including one car seat it's fine, we get all of our luggage in when going away etc, but a bit more space might be nice in the future. Only issue for anything bigger is you have to start sizing up car park spaces in multi-stories etc because once you get to 2m width you're relying on finding a space next to a little car.

It's worth looking inside a C43. I like the interior and find it a big step up from the standard C class (red seatbelts, red stitching, alcantara/"artico" (fake) leather seats etc). I had a standard C class courtesy car once and found the interior really dull compared to my C43. The latest version has the new widescreen infotainment too which is much better again. Also an improved steering wheel.

You have to look hard to find poor plastics although some of the switch gear on the centre console is more plastic than it looks on first glance.

like these. drove a 35 not so long ago and it really changed my perspective on what you level of quality you can get in a small car.

Collected a new GLA 200 AMG on Monday. Had a great deal on the lease, however i was a little shocked at the quality of the interior (lots of plastic). I returned a 67 plate Audi A4 S line, that was far superior.

The P11d book price on this GLA was £39,000. I was a little sad it does not come with electric mirrors, or even sensor wipers. The entertainment system is also shocking, its majorly outdated. Can anyone confirm how you get the bluetooth to sync my phone contacts etc. The only way i can get my contact up is for me to plug in the supplied USB.

What, so if you need to adjust the passenger side mirror you have to reach over and use a little plastic toggle on the door pillar or something? If so, that's absolutely shocking for a new car, even if it's the base spec.

My bad.. it has electric mirrors that can move the direction of the glass. I should have said, it does not have folding mirrors when the car is parked. Fox is probably correct, the GLA is a generation behind. I should not have been such a tight *** and simply gone for the GLC.

That looks stunning and I do really like the look of them, but 55K for an A-Class? Is this where we are now?
The performance and spec of that though, only space is the lacking element. Larger cars, RS6, E63 etc... are about double that before options

Did you not do any research before committing thousands to a brand new car? You seem to know nothing about the car

It's hardly your base spec A Class with a few trinkets. £55k is a lot, but after some discount it'll be closer to £50k. 1 year old examples would be very appealing around £43k.

Meh, its a lease - i can give it back in 18 months and i am lucky if i do 5k a year. I have spent some time in the car now. At the time of my first comment, i had only done 23 miles. It's starting to grow on me. The entertainment system is outdated, however i have found Apple-carplay. This is significantly better.

Guy I race with just bought a yellow A35 for his "Mrs" :)

He also has an M2 which doesn't get nearly as much use as the A35.

I spec'd up a new C43 estate and got to £60K OTR. Essentially the dark blue with the bigger alloys, the full tech pack thing, the sporty seats and performance egg sauce.

Not keen on going brand spanking. Hopefully the spec I'd like will pop up in time on AUC.
