Metal Gear Solid. The Phantom pain.

Oh there's no fuss about playing on release day, but the longer after release you wait the more likely you'll come across a spoiler, even if you're actively trying to avoid MGS threads or whatever.

This is the kind of game where a single spoiler can ruin it.

Toying between playing TPP straight away on Hard Mode (if thats possible)...

Blowing through GZ on normal is a bit too easy. I assume the AI will be roughly similar in its capabilities in TPP, and I'll have access to even more techniques to neturalise guards, so I think even though playing on Hard can slow down gameplay a bit, its still better than just crouch walking everywhere without a care in the world.

Normal just feels like an arcade game, where you can liberally abuse game mechanics and AI, whereas I actually have to sneak on Hard Mode.

Almost glad it's not out today - means I will properly start it on PS4 tomorrow :)

Got a key with my 980Ti. Wasn't happy with the card so sent it back but got to keep the code. Bought another 980Ti and have a spare code lol. Will prob sell it to put towards the PS4 cost.

Replayed MGS1, 2 and 3 for this (got to finish 3 today). also been looking at Peace Walker stuff online (game is far too big to complete again!). Will then replay Ground Zeroes later tonight :)

Yes I think I will go Hard mode if possible. Always prefer the challenge. Will do Hard mode on Ground Zeroes later and see how I feel. I don't imagine Phantom Pain will be like Peace Walker cause that game got very hard in parts thanks to the insane boss fights aimed at coop.

It feels quite different.

I always want to go for no alert/no kill runs, but I will see how it goes. I will have my first playthrough 'natural', as in I will aim to be stealthy and whatever, but honestly in Hard mode I still get caught out even though I know where all the guards are.... so if I'm playing a totally new game that alert status is going to sound often! So on my first go though, if the alert happens.. I'm bringing out the big guns. But I think this will be very mission based, so have no problems going back to perfect my runs.

I'm also torn about reflex mode. It feels sort of... well like cheating a bit.

Yeah I don't think I'm a huge fan of reflex mode. But without it, if I remember it goes straight into alert mode without any Radio call? Will have to check, cause if there is no radio call then it will just be annoying not to be able to correct the 'mistake' of being seen. It does feel a 'cheaty' mechanic though, same with the spotting and then seeing the arrows through walls.

I would (will) play it on hard. MGS should always be about not being seen.

On the normal GZ plays I've seen, people get into gunfights, go all Rambo, and take out an entire base... it's just silly.

Not that MGS itself is a realistic game (of course), but it's fragile thread of plausibility does kind of hang on you playing as a stealthy agent ;)

Hard runs that I've seen mean you take about 2-3 hits then you take a dirt nap. Much more like it, tbh. Snake is not Duke Nukem.
