mice everywhere in house

In my old flat, we had loads of mice. I tried mouse traps, but they rarely took them. Then I read somewhere that they aren't as keen if your sent is all over them, so I used gloves and baited with peanut butter.

I had about 3 traps set up, we caught 5 mice the first day, 3 the next day, and it dwindled after so it was 1 a week. But they were still there. I ended up tracking the hole in a cupboard where they were coming from, filled it with steel wool and expandable foam. After a few days, I realised they were all collecting in this cupboard. So I brought out Henry and sucked them up, about 5 of them. Didn't see many of them after that.

But we've now moved into a house and have a cat too. We've never seen mice running around the house, except for when the cat brings them in. And she brings in a lot! Sometimes 4 or 5 a week, and many times they're alive. Which is annoying when she loses one under the sofa. But every time she's lost one, we find it dead the next morning. It is annoying when she brings them and chases them in the middle of the night.

But no matter how annoying the cat+mouse problem is, it's 100% better than having just the mouse problem (mouse **** everywhere and them running across the lounge when you're watching TV - disgusting).

Get a cat.

A cat will just bring the dead mice to you!

PEPPERMINT!

Get some peppermint extract, splash it on some cotton wool then place it around the house, near any holes etc!

You can also add it to water and spray/wipe surfaces with it.

It works; Google it!

Those plug-in ultrasonic thingys are good too.

No need to mess about with dead mice using the above methods. :)

I was just about to say, on both occasions there weren't any serious amounts of mine and in the second house I think there are 3 of the plug-in things!

Peppermint works though, the *******s hate the smell. I think cayenne pepper works too. :)

Get two cats - never one.

If the dog doesn't like it - get rid.

If your brother doesn't like the idea of getting rid of the dog, then get rid of the brother.

I suspect that your mouse infestation is largely caused by food scraps and waste being left around. And a large part of that problem will be dog food. Get rid of the dog.... Oh! I already mentioned that :)

Took me ages to find out why we kept getting infested with mice. They were everywhere but I traced their nests to the loft but i couldn't work out how they'd got up there. Copious amounts of poisoned bait up there worked but as they had access all around the house using the water pipes which run in channels in the concrete floors they had plenty of opportunity to feed elsewhere.
Eventually they chewed a cable cutting out the upstairs lights. Whilst re-routing the cicuit I discovered mouse droppings actually in the consumer unit which was the clue to finding out how they got in. Our meter is outside in one of those white box things set into the wall. The mice had got into the box through a small hole where the mains from the grid came in, from there they had used the meter tails to get into the rear of the consumer unit in the house and then used the internal wiring to move around between floor and ceiling and in the stud partition walls.
After cutting off their entry point to the meter box so no more could get in all the mice in the house were killed by the poison in the loft within a couple of weeks.
I havent seen any evidence of mice for 2 years since I stopped them getting in. Moral is find out how they're getting in and fill the gap, only then will you stand a chance of getting on top of the problem.

Biggest thing you need to do is make sure their is no food supply and that the house is clean. Their must be a food supply for them somewhere. So check back of cupboards for signs.

Then get the council back in.

Get rid of the dog? How dare you.

The cat isn't exactly going to be able to go under the floorboards, is it?

It'll only be able to kill what it sees and then you'll have dead bits of mice everywhere, nice.

Have you tried Acme Corporation? They usually sell great items for getting rid of vermin. :p

Last time I had mince I just used peanut butter in traps.
