Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 announced.

Managed to beat into submission the tobii, yoke, throttles and Kodiak 100 so had a first constructive flight this morning. Flew from North Weald(EGSX) to Southend(EGMC).
Created the flight plan in Little Nav Map and imported it but couldn't send it to the avionics so ended up having to wing it. Missed the approach on the first pass so went around and managed a not terrible landing on the second go.
Need to do lots of reading up on the G1000 now and getting in lots of small flights.
Now it's almost all working it does look beautiful, need to get OBS setup again so I can do little videos.

Can anyone recommend a sub £100 (or a bit more if it's worth it) flight stick and throttle setup please? I'm looking at Thrustmaster T16000M or Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas One at the moment. Both under £100. They look pretty much like cheap plastic, so wondered if there's any better options?

I'm a very casual player and probably won't play a huge amount. But now that I've finally got a decent PC to play this I'd like to give it a go properly.

Bonus is I'll probably use it in Star Citizen as well.

Final question, are rudder pedals worth it? Or is twisting the stick ok?

If you have pc only, either the Hotas X/One will work fine with no difference.

The X is for PC, One is for either Xbox or playstation (I can't remember) but basically whatever is on offer/cheapest will make no difference in PC.

I've had a Hotas X for about 15 years it has had some use over the years as well, works perfectly fine today, well worth it.

I'd go for separate throttle and stick if using on the PC, much better experience.

These are pretty good if you prefer a stiffer stick. Throttle, prop controls on the stick for now then later you can get a better throttle.

Fully agree with this. It makes a big difference, both in terms of comfort and realism. You may need to increase budget by around £60 though. However, if you enjoy flight sim, it's a worthwhile investment and they should last for years.

This is a very popular set: https://amzn.eu/d/f5sVS8D

This stick also features a twist rudder function which is good for getting familiar with rudder operation and steering on the ground. You could then consider adding separate rudder pedals at a later date if you want to take the realism a little further.

You need one of these or you are not a gamer bro

I have much to learn.

I'm sure there will be a good Youtube channel to watch to learn these things, if someone knows of a good one? Would love to be able to flick all the switches and know what they do as I've seen A330driver do, but he is a bit quick to learn from.

I've been waiting for the Charlie rudder pedals and just using a xbox controller for taxi in the mean time. I'd see how you get on first.

Yeah the Airbus set is really good; I've now got the Captains Pack which adds the flaps and speedbrake levers, its excellent.

You can get the 16000m with separate throttle for less than £100 without looking too hard.

I have it and it is cheap plastic, but it works well and I think the resistance off the stick is adequate. A good purchase as an entry level setup and I'm thinking of buying another stick to use dual sticks in space sims.

I would recommend scrounging up a wee bit more for the pedals if you can though as it makes a big difference rather than twisting the stick to activate the rudder controls.

Also, I've just bought some lithium lubricant for the throttle and pedal rails as they stick a little but it wouldn't put me off recommending it. There's a screw on the throttle to loosen it off a bit as well.

Right, I've done what I always do and spent a lot more than I had planned to. From all my research people said it's better to go the 'buy once, cry once' route. I saw the VKB NXT series being recommended a lot so I've just ordered a Gladiator NXT EVO Omni throttle with premium left grip, and Gladiator NXT EVO 'Space Combat Edition' with premium right grip.

I'll use the Omni throttle as a throttle in flight sim initially and see how it works. Quite excited to be able to fly in FS2024 properly, as all I'm doing currently is repeatedly crashing using the keyboard.

It should be a good setup for Star Citizen which is good.

I don't have this anymore but saw someone say they improved their loading times by going to windows setting and clicking sync windows time, possibly slow due to licence and token sync

Found the site Helisimmer

The increase simulation speed is very glitchy, it'll often kill you.

Was using it yesterday on a mission that would have taken 2 hours in real time, was working ok until a bit, AP got a waypoint tried to make a turn, then the plane went mental the game went into warp speed and next black screen saying I had crashed. It has sucessfully made several turns before, I dunno, I think it was a combination of it being windy, and the compensation for wind and the speed increase just was too much for the game to calculate.

The game is pretty good but there are definitely teething problems, the above, and also that my plane keeps getting stuck on teh runway. I know it'll happen because I will get a notification that I was going too fast when using flaps (not even taken off at this point yet) then release parking brake, throttle up and nope, stuck to the ground.

I've also found some issues with the waypointing on the navigation, sometimes your navigatation route will just vanish, for no reason and I dont think.......its user error.

The user interface for planning routes (if doing it in the game NOT using the cockpit) is pretty awful, trying to scroll accross the map etc and often it doesnt save the points correctly.

Otherwise its good, in tandem with little navmap, I am able to plot courses from A - B, log that into the GPS, log the ILS frequency and use that etc, so that side is all working. I havent really been following ATC or doing it "realistically" yet in terms of traffic control, that will probably be my next thing to start learning, and then go on to navigation using the radio navigation beacons (VOR) but that is a little more complicated and I am not there yet, although I get the basic concept.

Spent ages before work trying to map the sim speed buttons while keeping my default controls intact so didn't get a flight in while eating breakfast like I usually do. Got my first flight in after work and didn't slow time back enough as I came into land and was still 2x speed, was a safeish land still but took quite a rep penalty for it. Next flight was bugged with a invisible wall in front of the parking spot so had to abort and my final flight before putting it away for the evening was in some old aircraft with no autopilot, the pitot tube removal was bugged and it appeared to be unstallable, so overall a terrible aircraft.

I've read a tip to continue until about 35k in credits to buy a cargo company with a Cessna and insurance, so I'll be following this advice. Should take no time at all now I can speed up time.

Yes i read similar on reddit.
I done the skydiving missions , skipped to the drop zone then literally nose dived back to approach making sure not to overspeed, literally on 10 minutes per mission and hit the required 35k in no time.
I bought the cargo company no missions are giving me anything from 15k-30k.
Very cool now taking my own plane to run cargo missions, it just feels immersive.
