Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 announced.

I had to assign it. Just do a search for sim or speed I think.

Hmmmm, it's a bit glitchy lol.

There is no way of resetting it (or setting it to default) and I'm not 100% it does it in steps, I held down the increase speed (rather than tapping the key) and my game went into warp speed for a brief moment, followed by the game hanging, followed by it telling me I had crashed lol.

I'll keep testing it, hard to believe there is no way of resetting it though or even to find out what it's currently set at.

Genuinely not a fan thus far, slightly let down by my machine potentially but only trying to run it on Medium, tried the Fenix and half the controls don't work despite calibrations and constant camera glitches, I had to go through the entire camera setup and take away all the binds that might be crossing with each other, got there only for my Engines not to spool despite I could hear them outside! then it was just lag. I have a decent internet connection, will give it a few weeks and go back I think!! either that, or go back after i've upgraded.

Yea the controls/key bindings in particular are an absolute state, I'll give you that.

It's honestly running fine for me though.

Wel.... I spoke to soon.

Trying to fly in Career mode, my plane (any) is stuck to the ground. I release the parking brake, throttle up, and it wont move, I can sort of jiffle it around a bit, but thats it......

It's not user error because it works fine in free flight mode.

Restarted the game as well which has not fixed it lol.

If anyone does request a refund it will likely be auto rejected, you can reply to the second email asking for it to be looked at by a person. I just explained the issues and no clear sign of any expected resolution or plan on fixing the problems.

That's a massive improvement on last week. Running more than acceptably smooth.
The visuals are still the usual FS mixed bag. Aircraft interiors, yep really nice. Some buildings, surprisingly good. Ground textures, vaguely right, but really weird.
Amusingly, my old car is baked into the floor outside of our garage. Immortalised into the concrete...

Think I'll go back to 2020 for the moment, I just want to learn to fly again(been away for over a year flying helo's in DCS) but at the moment I'm spending 90% of my time faffing around trying to get things working.

I had that yesterday.
The bindings that I’d set for brakes all seemed fine. I went and had another look and removed all of the brake bindings that I’d not personally set, including the keyboard bindings.
Worked fine after that.

Yea I faffed about a bit with it as well, tried doing a different mission types, rebound parking brake etc.

The odd thing is I know where the parking brake in the Cessna is, so was doing it manually, and it still didn't work.

Eventually the problem just fixed itself.....???

I guess the game is still early.

I must be alone here but im really enjoying it but i have only focused on the career so far flying the baby planes with little to no issues.

I had several occasions in 2020 where aircraft were firmly stuck despite all brakes being released.

Happened a couple of times in 24 already, but messing with the various controls seems to somehow get things moving again.

I've been doing the career as well. Finding it a bit of a grind in terms of mission variety, particularly if you can't stand any of the ones involving passengers for obvious reasons.

Since finding out that 'companies' unlocks at a minimum amount of credits (26k or something) I realised I'd have got there quicker if I hadn't spent so much on qualification exams.

However, given that the more serious flaws in career mode become apparent after starting a company am not sure if this is something I'm looking forward to.

Argh, game is frustrating.

I'm trying to get my plane to follow the gps, and then land via the ILS.

I got the navigation frequency in, heading set correctly, the autopilot follows the GPS to the nav point that's lined up with the runway, turns correctly so it's dead on the runway.

I set the autopilot to follow the nav, not the GPS, which again is fine, set it to approach mode, but it should follow the glide slope right?

Except it didn't and I don't understand why....

I'm know it's one bloody button in the AP I've got set wrong.

TLDR: I'm a noob at navigating.

Ahh cracked it.

What I think........... went wrong the first time is by the time I set the AP to follow the locator ILS, I was already too high and over the glide slope, so that my plane never intercepted it.

I tried it again, but was much lower and I could see the little diamond thing started over my current altitude, then as I approached the diamond went down and as soon as it went past the level I was at, the glide slope mode fired up and started decending the plane.

It actually fully landed the plane as well.

Pretty cool.

I need to keep practising this though. It's also frustraiting, because im using a lot of trail and error and even on short run (I was doing Elstree Aerodrome to Gatwick for example) its a good 15 - 20 minutes each time. Flying over london in pitch black on a clear night is nice though, I used to live in London and at one point I looked out the window and I could recognise brent cross shopping centre as I flew over.

Also watch the flight plans the game automatically sets up for you, some of them have the departure waypoint being controlled by the ATC, so in your navigation the next waypoint is something like MANSEQ. Again, no doubt me being an absolute noob, but that buggers up my GPS plan and my autopilot ***** itself.

I have much to learn.

Ah balls, I'll have to hold fire playing this. I thought my RX580 might just be able to handle it until I upgraded. Turns out it won't run at all.

Can anyone recommend a sub £100 (or a bit more if it's worth it) flight stick and throttle setup please? I'm looking at Thrustmaster T16000M or Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas One at the moment. Both under £100. They look pretty much like cheap plastic, so wondered if there's any better options?

I'm a very casual player and probably won't play a huge amount. But now that I've finally got a decent PC to play this I'd like to give it a go properly.

Bonus is I'll probably use it in Star Citizen as well.

Final question, are rudder pedals worth it? Or is twisting the stick ok?
