Microsoft Flight Simulator X

I was just wondering if it was worth getting this to play online? I mean, what kind of things can you do if you play this game online? I see a few things in the game description but it doesn't sound that exciting. Is it worth it?

You have to remember that this is a flight simulator and not Command & Conquer; it's not a game. Online play gives you other user flights as well as user ATC. It may be better to ask what you want from an online flight simulator or game and then look about to see what meets those needs.

It's the best feeling when you fully land a massive aircraft successfully. Yesterday was the first time I successfully landed a private jet and it was great!

Now im learning the big airline 747 ones :p They're like tanks to move :p

I find it great to fuel up a 747 for approx 15mins of flight and then try to get it back to the airport and land it before you crash!! Awesome. Or, fly one under the severn Bridge!!

Bad news for those people like me waiting on the DX10 upgrade, now it looks scheduled to launch in the fall, theres a small note on the bottom of this web page where MS announced the expansion pack.

http://www.fsinsider.com/news/Pages/AnnouncingFSXExpansion.aspx

Looks like the DX10 games are all going to the end of this year now.

Lets still hope the SP1 release is going to be with us for beginning of May.

Just bought this game and am waiting for my new joystick to arrive but in the meatime I was wondering whether there are any mods or add ons that I should get to get the most from it?

Ditto, just picked up my copy from the US, the Deluxe version for $38 posted!
I haven't used my Logitech Wingman 3D since FS 2002, hope it still works!

If anyone is interested in viewing Horizons VFR GenX photo realistic scenery I've recorded a 10 minute flight over my home town of Hastings in an Ultralight. It's ~260Mb but pretty good resolution and you can download it at http://blog.tn38.net/videos/hastings.wmv.

Just looked at your vid...I've been thinking about getting one of the VFR packs for FSX and think the Horizon package look far better than Just-Flights. I have tried both demos now and found it a bit hard to compare, as they are totally different landscapes - Snowdonia (Horizon) vs. Shoreham by Sea. But having seen your video, the Horizon VFR scenery looks far richer in colour and just a lot clearer - Just-Flight's looks rather green and murky by comparison.

The cliffs and coast also seem to merge well with FSX water, something also lacking in the Just-Flight demo.

So cheers for posting that, it really helps me to come to a decision :)

Well if its improved that much I should try the demo. Do you still lose all the autogen buildings though?

Yes..but if you get the Horizon demo (Just-Flights looks green and murky) they have a 3D demo, which adds custom placed Autogen..which look really good.

It will eventually be added as a download the other areas.

And you do have to go pretty low for it to look bad.

Here you go..very low, VFR with autogen.

Horizon VFR Vs Microsoft default.
