Microsoft Flight Simulator X

I don't understand how it can be very playable for you. I know someone with SLI GTX cards/FX62/2gb ram and he says it runs awful at ultra high.

I was getting FPS from 10-25 with fraps running ( rarely went below 15-20) and everyone knows fraps takes away from FPS, with out fraps running it felt a lot smoother, it was very rare the FPS went below 20.

I know thats 20 or so FPS seems low but for some reason it seemed smooth, not sure why  but it was very playable.

Is there an option ingame to show FPS when playing as i've not checked yet.

They should have employed Oleg Maddox to programme FS X. This runs like a dog with full settings on my X1900. Even my old 6600GT ran between 30-50 fps with full SM3.0 effects with Pacific Fighters.

You're one to talk ;) Didn't you buy an X1800, then an X1900? Not much to go to the next ATI card ;)

Aye, he bought it on release too if i remember so paid full wack price for it (£300+) :D

Im quite enjoying this at the moment, runs fine for me. Just worked my way through the tutorial missions, im a complete noob, so was good to learn and actually have an objective.

I don't remember paying full whack for my x1800 last November when they came out, i remember paying £200 for it though, and as i said ive still got it today. :D

When the x1800 was released the RRP was around £350 on here.

As someone who has bought every version of MS FS and even go as far back at the Sublogic FS that I think was the forerunner, FSX was possibly the one I was looking forward to the most. I think so much was hinted at (not promised I suppose) but I'm not sure yet was has been delivered. From most reports its not so good and I don't just mean graphics performance.

No change to ATC ? Flight models unchanged ? No real multicore support.

What is worrying is that I can't see how the CPU aspect of FSX is going to improve in the next year at least. FSX really only supports 1 core and uses the 2nd core for very minor stuff (from what I've read) so throw in a quad core and watch performance increase by 0%. Given that AMD/Intel are focussing on multicore for the forseable with probably only minor increases in core speed then I don't see how FSX is going to improve.

Vista/DX10 - Well this is a big unknown. I've seen an "artists impression" of what FSX might look like but I am not holding my breath. It's a picture with sun rays breaking through the clouds and water with foam on the surface which looks very impressive. It's a wait and see.

The graphics seem to swing from quite good to utterly horrible. The clouds and atmosphere seem well done (as good as FS2004 with some addons) but some of the ground looks very odd. The water just looks wrong a lot of the time.

I hate being so negative about FSX and part of me still wants to get it but it's £50+ ! I don't know :(

Slightly off topic, but there is a hilarious vid on YouTube emulating people's reactions to FSX. I can't direct link because of the language content but go there and search for 'Sim Heil'.

That mate is class!!

Deserves to go down in history!!

If only i had the email address of the head developer for fsx lol

Love it!

FS9 + Texture + Mesh enhancements + awsome missions + new planes + loads of other things.

Dual CPU support, I don't care really, one 3.6ghz conroe should short CPU usgae out.

:D

Its using about 400mb on my 512Mb GPU mem and about 1Gb of main memory :D
