Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Anyone else notice how FSX doesnt put much of a 'load' on your GPU? Even after a good hour of playing my x1800xt is still only at +1 fan speed. Where as almost every other game will heat up the card in less than a minute and have the fan spinning at 1 below max speed. Odd.... tells me the GPU isnt being used to its fullest..

I have to say I am alittle disappointed with FSX on a few levels. The graphics do look nice but for the hardware we have at present compared to what we had in the FS9 period (ATI 9800 era) and the gain seen in FSX, the jump isnt that massive. Those lovely screen shots that got shown to us in the months leading up to FSX sometimes look like they have come from another game. Would be the 800x600 res of the screenshots tricking us!

Auto gen buildings is prob one of best things that has been improved.. but why does it cause so much of a slow down? Essentially cubes with low res textures drawn on, IMO they really shouldnt impact performance as much as they do. Poor coding :(

ATC is untouched.. 3D cockpits look bad.... no dual core support WHY? For a game that prides itself on being ahead in the PC tech world its an extremely poor move by MS to miss out on.

Having said all this I do like FSX haha.. its just I think for a product that comes out once every 3yrs MS has been extremely lazy.

I don't remember paying full whack for my x1800 last November when they came out, i remember paying £200 for it though, and as i said ive still got it today. :D

lol scrub what i said earlier, they were £400+ at OCUK when they first came out. So it looks like you are suffering memory loss :D

Lock on maybe?

Considering the hardware performance of today, those screenshots and the performance people are getting really are pathetic :) I've never rated the MS flight simulator games and this one looks just as rubbish and overrated as the others.

No memory loss here, OcUK had them up for £479, other places were £350, i sold my old x800 for £150, so £150+£200 = £350, so as i said i only paid £200. ;)

Thats right, you paid £350. Doesn't matter how you financed it, you still paid £350 :D

Have you considered other ppl may sell their old hardware too to buy a DX10 card? Whats the difference?

"You have to buy Vista" isn't an argument either because, i dare say, sooner or later you too will be buying Vista.

I've just got this, really dissapointed with the performance/graphics :\

Me too, very poorly programmed game (for DX9 at least). Lets hope that DX10 hardware runs it better :)

After giving it a good try and wanting to like it, i've come to the conclusion it really has been done extremely badly, what were those beta testers doing.

This game really needs sorting,

Finally managed to get a reasonable looking flight (no autogen or fancy water - which was why i bought the thing) and towards the end of a 737 flight the thing keeps crashing some memory read at location blah blah error.

I really cannot believe they've made such a rubbish looking program use so many system resources, this really is the worst piece of programming i've ever had the misfortune to purchase - should have downloaded a copy.

And Vista, well the demo ran fine but the release is completed stuffed and unuseable in anything but fullscreen mode bah!!! :(

Then surely you cant compare people spending £400 on a gfx card when they too are only spending £200 (assuming they sell their graphics too)??? (Im on about DX10)

Slightly off topic, but there is a hilarious vid on YouTube emulating people's reactions to FSX. I can't direct link because of the language content but go there and search for 'Sim Heil'.
Thats absolutely brilliant! Everyone has got to watch this.

Even more off topic: the movie that's from (Downfall) is excellent too.
