Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Further updates for FSX in regards to

FSX Acceleration - being released end of this month. Including some DX10 enhancements as well as some info about FSX SP" can now be found at

http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/

You can also click on some links to pics of the new way water will be displayed.

Looks like I'm spending another £30 at the end of the month.

Me too.

Aside from the DX9 fixes, the DX10 support I've been waiting for and the extra missions there'll be, I can't wait to get my hands on these:

Can someone do a quick list of all the must have addons for Flight Simulator X?
I've been reading through the pages but I'm getting confused! Starts to add up as well, a brief run down from someone in the know would be great.

Got myself a new 2407 monitor so now have a 2 monitor set up. Running this under Vista 64.

But when I run FSX, I get flickering screens and can't play FSX. I knew there was a probelm for this so went to get the patch, tried to download it and on running the patch tells me it's not applicable to my system, has anyone else got this problem? and If so is there a fix?

FSX runs superb on the 2407 on it's own, but would like to have the other monitor running as well.

Thanks

Taff

There's a 64 bit patch for FSX on the windows homepage for this exact problem, I was having the same issue but this patch fixed it. I don't have the direct link but it should be easy enough to track down.

Has anyone here read Phil Taylors latest blog entry on Acceleration and SP2?

http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2007/10/02/acceleration-and-sp2.aspx

Some interesting reading on the implimentation of DX10 and it's role within FSX. I'll leave you with a quote;

"we are labeling the DX10 support a “preview” in the UI. We expect it will add value; but we are not expecting the DX10 path to replace the DX9 path as the primary experience in FSX and expect third parties to author to the DX9 path in the large."

begs the question - what exactly is the point of FSX if not a cash cow?

There's no improvement in ATC, the default aircraft are still way too simplistic, and a fully modded FS9 still looks and performs better.

FSX was supposed to be all about DX10.

....and there's an intimation that there will be no more service packs indicating it's now down to third party suppliers to improve the game.

And this when the majority of overclocked multi core processors are still struggling with the load the game puts on them. Somebody at MS/Aces clearly wrote cheques they couldn't cash 2-3 years ago when they started development and now they are finally admitting it.

At last!

FSX Acceleration has been delivered and installed. The planes are fantastic, the graphics a little smoother, the framerate is the same though.

Whhhooooooooosssshhh!!!!!

Now I've had a chance to play with it a bit more I'm decided it is faster running, nowhere near the leap SP1 had over the original but definitely an improvement and generally the scenery just looks a little better.

As it stands, a good improvement. I haven't done any missions yet though.

Anyone else been playing with FSX Acceleration yet?

Essentially the same as FS9 though. We didn't even get a service pack, just the 9.1 update which did what? Fix a tiny bit of code and stick some bridges in the right place.

Thank god for PMDG and the likes.

I await with baited breath the fps results when someone installs the PMDG MD-11 and tries to fly it out of a busy terminal with a decent amount of AI.

I've been playing with it for the last week. I've noticed a couple of issues with graphical glitches. Switching views seems to cause terrain to be redrawn now and again, but again that might be my settings or Vista SP1 which I'm testing.

I do like the extra features such as more cloud options, and I'd be very interested to see what they do with the weather module.

In any case, I'm too busy flying my Airbus A380-800 (and trying to land) to focus too much time on its features right now.

True FSX fans have Active Sky X. :p

Is that the Abacus A380?

I have ASX! I just tried out the features of FEX to see what they were like :p

Not sure which one I got. I'll have to have a look when I get home. It doesn't have the VC, just the standard cockpit.

I was hoping to get the VFR Generation X: England & Wales bundle but that seems to be sold out at the minute. Mainly flying in USA at present. Seattle to KORD (O'Hare)

I keep landing just right of the runway. It's hard to get the correct speeds for the A380. More of a guessing game for me right now. I'll need to check out a few of the forums.

Been playing with it for a few weeks now, it came out over here a lot earlier than in the UK it seems. DX10 is actually slower when in clouds than DX9 for me even with a top end system.

I like the new missions but I primarily use FS to keep my IR skills honed and work on difficult approaches so I rarely even look out of the window anyway. However I was dissapointed to see that they still haven't fixed the flight dynamics for departures from the flight envelope, it still isn't possible to maintain knife edge flight without losing altitude, nor is it possible to do half of the advanced aerobatic maneuvers that involve spins or single wing stalls. I know its a minor gripe for most people but for me since I'm an aerobatic pilot as well as airline, it would be nice to practice some of this stuff.
