Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Just got the acceloration pack yesterday. So far- so good. Loving the new fighter jet. Forget the name. Boeing F-10 or something. Can't seem to figure out how to havea free flight take off from a ship thought. Any ideas?

Anyone got the Saitek Yoke? thinking of getting it.. any opinions on it? good for FS.. costs quite a lot.. not sure if its worth it or not!

I have Vista 64bit and an 8800GT and the fps I am getting are rubbish. Have you all settings turned up Buckster? Espically the scenery density? I can have everything up full except that at 1680x1050 and get about 25fps, when I turn everything up I get about 10-15.

Try these tweaks out.

The biggest saving is in not having AI traffic. It's not a big loss unless you're into inter-relating with other traffic (which I find a pain in FS anyway). If you haven't done these tweaks before, I guarantee a 5-15 FPS improvement, which will make your flights smooth(ish). I am getting 20's on average, dipping occasionally at over cities and at airports with lots of custom scenery, and rising to 40s and 50s elsewhere.

ps - you shouldn't have to do this stuff, which my biggest complaint with FSX. When something does not run well out of the box with top hardware - something is wrong somewhere...

For me the DX10 preview has caused a number of issues.

Agreed. Apart from the 2-3 FPS hit (which undoes the savings in SP2), bloom is outrageously strong. If life was like that we would all be blind!

To my mind DX10 has to be one of the biggest cons in software history. Witness the impact on Company of Heroes or World in Conflict. Massive frame rate hits and next to no visible benefits.

Ducks... :)

Id like to see the difference tbh with Dx9 And Dx10 if someone can upload come images?

There you go. First: DX9...

Now DX10...

The noticeable differences are that DX10 has:

ripples on the water in the docks in the foreground
improved reflections on the water in the background
a bloom effect that is more offputting than realistic.

That's it. For me, the DX9 bloom effect is more accurate, and can currently live without the better water textures/reflections.

hi,
Just about to order my new computer for flight sim and off to get flightsim x.
The thing is i have heard that FSUIPC does not work with vista 64 bit which i was thinking of getting so i could use 4 gig ram. has anyone else heared this? or think this will be much of a problem. or should i go with the 32 bit and onlly get 2 gig ram?
was going to get other games too thats why i wanted the 4 gig
TIA

I've had no problems using FSUIPC on Vista 64. You may need to run the install as an Administrator, and perhaps turn UAC off (not sure about that as I turned it off before I even installed anything), but it works just fine.

Just got FSX running on my new PC and really enjoying it.

I know there have been links to various sites for addons but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend me specific files to download for flyable (with virtual cockpit) A380, A340, and MD-11 planes please :). Free ones would be great!

PMDG MD-11 in the making, looks to be a fantastic and very accurate simulation of the plane. Payware of course but if your only gonna buy one plane this one looks like the one to get (saying this though, its not out yet :P ).

Other planes im looking forward to getting (payware also, you dont get any decent things for free unless its stated otherwise :) ... Not counting wireless internet ofcourse).

Eaglesoft Citation X 2.0 (Not released yet) - http://www.eaglesoftdg.com/CitationX_20.htm

Going to be flying the Columbia around UK untill I get the others, MD-11 for flights to all over the world, Citation X for around europe :D.

There's the SkySim MD-11 - I bought it - wouldn't recommend it tho tbh :/

PMDG 747 is pretty good.
CS 757 - laggy but good
Realair SF260 - awesome lil GA plane - defo worth the money.

I've just installed the Deluxe Edition and when I started it was asking for me to update to SP1 but looking at the download page it states not to install SP if you have the acceleration pack and the deluxe edition has this does it not?

Nope. You need to buy this separately.

I might reinstall this, but the only worry is that I replaced my ATI 1900 XTX with an ATI 3450 to get the Bluray playback. Will the 3450 be up to running FSX?

Yeah it's mostly cpu driven. Those two cards might even be of similar powers - but I could run it on a xp1800+ and fx5200 so it'll be fine.

Pretty good?

It's the best there is. From cold and dark to preflight to SID to STAR to post-flight to cold and dark it's as nigh on perfect a simulation as you can get. All done in glorious 2560x1024 virtual cockpit :)

The MD-11 is gonna have to be spectacular to beat it.
