Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Those are some cool shots OzZie! Were you getting decent FPS when you took those? Mine jumped up quite a bit when I put water-effects to "Low" but it dont look too good that way!

Ran well surprisingly (over 25fps) 90% of the time. Knowing what settings affect performance is vital in FS9/X and getting the perfect balance is quite hard to someone who new to the game.

For me, it didnt run any worse than a heavily modded FS9, but then again i couldnt try the areas with lots of buildings in the demo as it was limited to a certain area. :)

Thats right, you paid £350. Doesn't matter how you financed it, you still paid £350 :D

Have you considered other ppl may sell their old hardware too to buy a DX10 card? Whats the difference?

"You have to buy Vista" isn't an argument either because, i dare say, sooner or later you too will be buying Vista.

Erm no i didnt, what are you smoking, i paid £200, someone gave me £150 (not my money) £200 (was my money) therefore i paid £200, is it to hard to understand.

Going by what your saying then, if anyone with an EVGA GX2 uses the step-up programme for a G80, then your trying to tell me that they are still going to be paying £400+ for the G80, erm what a rip off the step-up programme is then if your paying the £400+ still for it, you may as well just buy another brand thats a bit cheaper than EVGA, no point spending the £400+ still if say Leadtek or someone does em for £350, you may as well not bother with the step-up programme and save yourself £50 by buying another brand that is cheaper, step-ups a rip.

As i said when i got a DX9 card DX9 had been out for ages (9800pro was a DX9 card), so how many DX9 games were out, exactly, how many DX10 games are you going to be buying and playing when you get your G80 in Novemeber, answer = 0, why, well because DX10 is not being released for about another 4 months after thats why.

The games that use DX10 look identical to DX9 (take Crysis for instance, identical), so if you have a high end DX9 card, why do you want to pay £400+ for a DX10 card, and £200+ for a copy of Vista to play it identically to what your GX2 plays it under XP.

Yes later on ill probably be buying Vista, and a DX10 card, but thats when DX10 is actually being used more, and doesnt look like DX9 still (ages away yet), if you have a high end card now then there is no point getting a DX10 one, as nothing is using DX10, and by the time it is, and it looks different to DX9 as said, the G80/R600 are going to be well old, and will have been passed by umpteen faster/better DX10 cards, so your only buying another DX9 card really, and if you already have a high end DX9 card as said cutting through DX9 games, then you have wasted your money.

If you have a low end DX9 card that struggles in todays games then yes, G80/R600 will be a cracking upgrade as they will cut through your games no sweat, but i bet when G80 comes out in November it can't cut through Dx10 games as thats going to be impossible for months (which is a long time in graphics cards), the G80/R600 are only going to be worth it for DX9, so if your card isnt hacking DX9 now, then they will be cracking upgrades, just don't expect DX10 games flooding out in droves, and looking different to DX9 for a long while yet as your going to be dissapointed. :p

Anyway this is off topic, so thats me done. :)

totally agree with the above, by the time DX10 games are significantly advanced then G80 and the like will be tomorrows chip paper.
I'l be more than happy to pick up the last DX9 cards at cracking prices as i doubt DX10 will be a neccesity until maybe the 3rd generation of cards.
7950 GTX2 with 650 Core and 2gig DDR4 for £200+vat early next year anybody.

Despite all my misgivings about FSX I think I'm going to crack and get it anyway. I don't buy many games any more so I can probably justify it. I've found the Deluxe version online for £43 which isn't bad I suppose.

Hopefully some 3rd party people can sort out some of the bad bits quickly.

BTW - Has anyone flown over central London? Do you get the strange "land bridges" across the Thames?

Do you actually have anything to add to this Flightsim X thread except anti-DX10 rantings?

My point is you're being a hypocrite. How you can "PMSL" at anyone who wants to buy the latest, fastest hardware when you yourself paid £350 for an x1800 back in November (no matter how you financed it) Maybe some ppl will "PMSL" at you because the X1800's are worth bugger all now :D

The Nvidia 8800 will sell bucketloads because it will be the fastest card on the market. Hopefully the DX10 features may even help make this sim run smoother too.

Lets LOL@Loadsa for paying £350 for a new card

I ordered my copy the other day! I highly you recommend http://www.fs2004.com as all the members are dedicated flight simmers (im a member) and they have already created an FSX Tweks thread where you can change the config without comprimising your in game setting s or for those people with less powerful rigs they run it on minimal settings with 20-25FPS. Give it a try!

Here is an link to all the FSX topics within the forum.

Im not PMSL at anyone, you still aint grasped the point, i know it wil be the fastest card out, but at DX9!!! so if you already have a GX2 etc.. thats cutting through DX9 already, why spend £400+ for a couple of more frames, and then another £200+ on Vista when that comes out, it aint worth it, DX10 is not even worth talking about as its a long way off, i serioulsy wish i knew where you were getting the £350 from as i said, so your also saying lets all LOL@ those with EVGA cards who are using the step-up program, how daft is that eh, they could save a boat load of cash by not bothering with the step-up and just getting a cheaper brand, but no they will use the step-up program and pay £400+ PMSL, just like easyrider PMSL, rekons its going to cost him about £70 to get a G80, PMSL it will be £400+ still as you say, as it doesn't matter how he financed it, and he's already got a GX2 that cuts through everything, so a waste of over £400+ for him eh, PMSL

If ppl want to pay over £600+ for a few more frames in DX9, even though the card they have is cutting through it, and on DX10 which is not worth having for about a year as it looks like DX9 still, and DX10 games will run in DX9 under XP so theres no need for Vista then its up to them at the end of the day. :)

As i said this thread is not about that anyway, its about FSX, so dont reply to my post as its not on topic, and let the thread get back on topic. :)

OK OK we get it already, we've yet to see any performance figures for the G80 in DX9 or DX10 so it's just wild speculation TBH, once the G80 is out and we know the price and have seen some reviews we can then make an informed decision!

Exactly, loadsarant must have a crystal ball if he knows that the G80 is only a few fps faster than current gen

I really don't understand how he can try to take the mick out of ppl buying a G80 at £350 (possible price of 8800GT)when he himself paid £350 for an upgrade. Whats the difference? Is he the only one who can sell hardware to help pay for an upgrade? PMSL.

I suspect that it's the fact that Nvidia are the first to bring out a DX10 card is what's really bothering him :D

Sorry if this has been covered already...

What setup would you recommend on getting to run Fligh Sim-X in medium to high settings without any problems..?

I've been reading around the net and it seems that people with even a high spec system have problems getting this Simulator to run smoothly...

I want to make sure I have a good enough graphics card etc before I go and buy this, so what would you recommend?

2GIG RAM as well maybe?

Thanks for the help.

Kind regards,
-Rob
