**** Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Thread ****

Been tempted by a Surface 4 since it came out but never quite been able to justify it. If they announce a 5 and it's a big improvement at that event I might well have to go for it.
Its looking like they wont call it Surface Pro 5 till they have something new, and likely Surface 4 will get a spec bump in CPUs etc.
Wouldnt make sense to call jstu a spec bump Surface 5 and essentially be the same screen chassis etc.

could be a more interesting event, may 23rd china conference. "Will show the world what's next", Surface team is there, but no live stream. No one seems to know what it's about
see if it lives up to the hype or not.

Shame windows for arm was pushed back to redstone 3, that's what I really want. Arm devices and price, which runs win32 apps. yes please.

My money's on some sort of push for Continuity.

So new Surface Pro tomorrow?
nope, well extremely unlikely.

edit - ah missed the new tweets. so yeah looks like is it is a new surface pro, but refresh rather than full update by looks of it.
If recent leaks are anything to go by, Microsoft is expected to launch a refreshed Surface Pro at its China event this week. Ahead of that event, Microsoft's Surface head Panos Panay has dropped a big hint on Twitter (via The Verge) by teasing some seemingly new alcantara Type Covers. Check them out below:

This teaser follows a leak from VentureBeat late last week that shows what is purportedly the followup to the Surface Pro 4. According to the report, the device will simply go by the name "Surface Pro," and features a design that looks virtually identical to the Surface Pro 4. That's not unsurprising, as rumors have previously pointed to a relatively minor refresh featuring a move to Intel's Kaby lake processors.

So the new Surface Pro has been revealed with 13.5 battery life. Again, why would anyone buy the Surface Laptop running 10S when you can get that instead?

Laptop has :

a bigger screen
rigid design
better battery life.

10 Pro is a free upgrade on the laptop.

13.5 is only going to be achievable watching videos. Anything slightly taxing will empty the battery much quicker.

Reasons above are partly why I switched to a Dell XPS. You never need to consider battery life it just lasts.

10 Pro is a temporary free upgrade though. I just think in a price vs quality ratio it just makes more sense to use a Surface. We'll see how they both fare in the coming months.

the i5 version is now fanless, I wonder if it throttles.
and global launch June 15th, finally MS should have been doing that for years. not waiting 6+months for some markets like us and hardware being out of date.

Looks like a solid improvement. I am very tempted. This'll be my first Surface device. Been wanting something to code on that I can move about with. Surface Book is probably a better option but the Pro appeals more to me oddly.

probably because the book is a new design and needs a new model or two to iron out some of the features, where sp is very much honed. That's what I think anyway, would love a book over a pro, but its missing a couple of things.

Yea, but its free till the end of the year, after which its £50 for it, hardly a big deal when dropping a lot of money for either machine.

The entry model would be the one I'd consider an upgrade over my S3 Pro, though I imagine the CPU's not actually faster, but that's absolutely fine with me, I've got a Skylake M in my Ultrabook.
But lol @ the 1:1 dollar to pound pricing for the entry model.

It's not too far out. 20% VAT remember.

Isn't the pound only ~30% more than the dollar at the moment so by the time you add on 20% VAT in the UK vs prices ex sales tax in the US it would be more or less the same?

Kabylake's media decoder will allow the Surface to run Youtube videos a lot cooler thanks to VP9 support, with my SP4 I found VP9 videos jacking the fan up often. Using an extension to force H264 solves this though.

So apart from the charger is nothing else included with the new Surface? Keyboard cover is still seperate right?
