**** Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Thread ****

I looked at benchmarks for the Skylake i5 vs i7 in the SP4 , and the differences are negligible. Same applies to RAM - since I won't be dealing with massive PS files and the like, I decided to go for this mid spec one in stead.

Where have you seen the comparisons?

I'm holding fire until the i7 comes out, and have trawled the net for a peak at the i7 SP4, but can't see anything?

From what I can tell, they just aren't out to the reviewers yet. Also, if that's true, the IRIS in the i7 when it is released should give some very notable performance increases. It may cripple the battery though.

The only comparisons out at the moment are between the i5 and the Book i7 but the graphics capabilities here are not the same because of the dGPU in the book.

The big windows 10 update coming tomorrow (hopefully) might help with the crashes.

Do you get firmware updates using windows update?

1511 is downloading now. Hope it fixes everything :p

Yes firmware/driver updates come via Windows Update. Which gives the Surface an advantage over other Windows tablets.

Sounds improved but it's annoying that ms are still having issues with windows 10 you'd think it would work smoothly on Microsoft hardware. M3 sound s like the best option at the moment imo given the lack of fan and the fact it isn't much slower than the other versions. It's a shame you can't order it with larger ram and ssd capacities.

Yeah, and I've yet to find a review of the book without the dedicated graphics. I think the i7 iris graphics will hold there own though.

Am I right in thinking it's not being released mainstream until next year, but somehow they will be present in the i7 surface pro? Pretty sure I've read that somewhere.

Got mine, setted it up and is currently updating. Funnily enough the big TH2 update is out so it's taking a good while... my desktop has yet to even see this big update :p.

EDIT: Update finished late, but managed to install some of my apps. Some have issues with the scaling but that's to be expected. Chrome works fine but sometimes crashes every now and then.

I decided to manual install the Intel graphics drivers just so I can use the Intel graphics panel, and created a custom resolution of 1368x912 (half of the real resolotion in terms of length and width), just in case I need to use an old app that doesn't properly scale.

Need to play around with it more though, as a previous Android tablet user, I keep finding myself looking for the back button at the bottom :p. But for multitasking it's fantastic, much better than what iOS and Android can offer. As a laptop, the touch cover feels like a proper laptop keyboard. I was a bit worried it would feel a tad flimsy like the 3 but it is a major improvement, I can easily type on this for long durations with no problem.

Which SP have you got Orcvader, and which drivers did you use?

Trying Premier Pro out at the moment, but it keeps crashing when I try to add effects to video. I get video_tdr_failure (igdkmd64.sys) - assuming it's some driver related issue.

I downloaded the drivers manually, but I got a system message saying it's not compatible.

The i5/8gb/256gb model.

Download the 64 bit zip folder from here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25484/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-

Then extract it to desktop. Go to device manager and select the Intel graphics adapter and go to update. You'll need to pick "Browse my computer" and then "Let me pick from a list of device drivers", " Have disk" then navigate to the folder you extracted and go to Graphics and there should be igdlh64.inf, select that and Windows will then proceed to install it. Looking at the driver date this seems to be a month newer.

I only installed it this morning but had to go to work so haven't tested if it's any better yet. A bonus option, with the Intel control panel you can change the graphics performance to max which gives it a nice boost.

I couldn't help myself and picked up the i5/8GB/256GB SP4 yesterday. My Type Cover arrived from Microsoft as well.

It took around 2 hours to install the TH2 Windows update. The SP4 is from batch 1544 and has a Samsung SSD, although the speeds are fairly decent without BitLocker enabled yet.

No major issues so far apart from once yesterday (after installing all the updates, firmware and TH2) it wouldn't wake properly from the screen being off, had to hold the power button to force a reset.

I'm still curious to see battery and gaming results for the i7 models, some US customers might get theirs late next week.

My Surface has arrived but it's not a Pro 4...

I guess a new thread here will be ok as it has a tablet.

Shouldn't be any real difference. The batch numbers just give you an idea of when it was manufactured, i.e 1544 is the 44th week of 2015: October 26th to November 1st

Does your batch 1543 have a Toshiba or Samsung SSD? You should be able to see the model number in Device Manager under Disk Drives.

Ah ok, sounds good. Just checked and mines a Samsung.
Really happy with the device so far! Any tips/tricks in terms of settings on the surface (should I disable anything or reinstall a certain driver etc.)?
