*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

I tried a couple of months back on a older 5~6yr old i5 laptop. The touchpad wasn't supported (no drivers)
Tried it again the other day this, time it works. But the two finger scroll is too sensitive, it ignores the settings. Still its not a deal breaker.
That said it all worked perfectly with Linux Mint.

Interesting, mine appear like this and if click "Show more options" I get the old style

Context menu when more options selected

Mine is the same and I hate it.

Just seems like they changed it just for the sake of it, it doesn't appear to add any value to the experience.

I'd normally right click on the desktop for the nvidia ui for example, but now just go to the icons in the corner.

Panicking about buffer underrun

It has been awhile LOL - I remember always worrying about it but I don't think it ever happened to me.

On a different note getting so fed up with how many 3rd party programs I have to use just to get 10/11 to not be disruptive, so the OS actually uses <1% CPU when idle (~7C average temperature drop on the CPU), randomly stuff spinning up in the background when the system is unattended, disruption from updates and just to get basic functionality in a quick and convenient way and/or remove elements of the UI or OS in general which just add visual noise without being useful.

Meanwhile I get insider emails of all these wonderful features they are working on of which 9 out of 10 no one has ever asked for or needs, the odd actually brilliant idea gets a half-arsed implementation then abandoned while the bread and butter bits of the OS are still lacking.

It takes 2 sections fix it mate. As mentioned just paste this into cmd:

Code:
reg add "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32" /f /ve

DVD RW drives. Those were the days. Panicking about buffer underrun. Or certain discs you had to write slower so it wouldn't corrupt for long term.

As well as the days of Nero Burning ROM. Never knew they still existed.

I have a usb slot loading dvd rw drive stuck on the top of my pc and no I hardly ever use it, but it does come in handy sometimes. And I do still use good old Nero burning rom and you never get any fails anymore when burning cds/dvds.

Wait I thought Windows 10 was the last new version of Windows...
That is exactly what I heard and read. Windows 10 was going to be the last version of Windows then Micro$haft were going to focus on tablets and other portable devices. There Windows phones didn't do very well I see. Micro$haft are going a bit stale and they know it hence Windows 11 release.

I had always wanted a Blu-ray burner then it turned out I would never need it. That and there were supposedly issues with keys for Blu-ray? Burning discs certainly was fun back then.

Why could Microsoft not have just left windows 10 style menu as an option? I just really want to swear right now at Microsoft they are useless when it comes to options and they force users on how they want you to use it unless you use 3rd party applications.

I think Windows 10 is ugly and messy. Windows 7 looked much better. Windows 11 looks like a distribution of Linux.

I like the Windows 11 look in concept, not so much where the style has been implemented at the cost of usability or efficient use of screen estate. In practise though the execution is mostly amateur hour - even taking into account the complications of legacy features.

I don’t mind the new style, but overall, I’m just about at the end of putting up with it. I’ve given it plenty of time, but I find in everyday use, I come up against something that I think “ why ?”, or how can they not make that look like the new look?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, its now a mess of window appearances ranging from XP through to 11. So much so, I’m seriously looking at jacking it, and going Mac mainly for a level of consistency.

Every time I use the my machine, it just grates me in some way.

Does make me laugh when something goes wrong sometimes and you end up with a Windows NT looking UI appearing... (not due to stuff like StartIsBack).

Same for me though - I don't think I've ever come away from a session of using 10 or 11 where something hasn't driven me up the wall at how utterly pants on head stupid it is.

Urgh - discovered a new hate about Windows 11...

Snipping tool has been changed to a UWP app rather than a native Win32 app - now takes an age to load, and they've added a load of irrelevant rubbish to it (A ruler? Touch writing, undo/redo functionality)

Just leave stuff alone ffs - especially stuff that impacts people's workflows.

I have win11 just about the way I like it, more win7/win10 look and feel, and Ive stopped the automatic updating like I did in win10, so its reliable and wont restart when it feels like it... So win11 is no diff to 10 for me, its seems tobe rock solid and stable like 10 was as I have had it booted up for over a week without restarting/shutting down, plus my old SCSI LTO3 tape drive still detects and runs fine on 11.which I use for my media backup, as I cant bare to buy a 10tb drive just for backing up.
