*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

Is Windows 11 generally ok use now for gamers? I remember in the first 6 months or so a service package hampered gaming performance for a lot of people.
Considering an install....if its stable now.

I've not seen much difference between 10 and 11 for gaming but I've seen some complaints recently of slower game loading times on 11.

EDIT: Reminds me of another issue, possibly related, Windows Defender especially in 11 lately seems to be getting more and more resource heavy and false positive prone :( I suspect due to the inclusion of AI based detection :s to the point it is starting to become a serious consideration between turning it off and security which is not a good idea.

What games? That's the first I've heard of that particular issue.

There was an SSD speed bug in an update ages ago on 11 which took MS a while to fix but again that too has been fixed for ages and only affected a ahndful of SSD models.

Doesn't seem to be down to specific games. Some of them re-checking now do actually seem to be down to Windows Defender and adding an exclusion for the game folder stops it happening - I had my suspicions as I've seen poor performance from Defender with recent updates especially in 11.

Huge assumption on my part but I think MS is trialling AI features but not rolling it out to all users - if so stuff like that shouldn't be going out to people not part of the insider program.

No problemo

I use ReviOS 11, it's stripped and debloated and made for gamers in mind. They have 10 too. It has all the basic functionality of Windows, Window Store, Gamepass etc, and the proper runtimes without all the telemetry and bloat.

Been using W11 on both gaming desktop and laptop since late 2021 shortly after release, had zero issues whilst gaming… :)

I’d be hesitant to download Windows from anything other than the official site (assuming this is a custom image).

I knew someone would mention this. I'm very aware of the risks, these are a pretty well known group though similar to Tiny Windows with a decent rep. They have a discord server too. Obviously you can't be 100% on wether something malicious has been added to a custom image but I've not had any issues with it (that I know of) and been using it for some time.

It's just worth letting people know so that they can make an informed decision. If you have decent hardware, it isn't worth the risking your personal info, bank info, etc.

The source code is on GitHub, if they're being dodgy and hiding it in plain site then they're doing a really good job.
By the time you find out there's an issue, it's way too late. The average user will just download ISO, and won't verify the checksum or review the code.

If you want these optimisations, the best option is to do an official vanilla install and then apply the code yourself, while full understanding what it's doing.

Let's be honest, Microsoft themselves add enough malicious stuff of their own, telemetry etc, hence why these custom iso's exist in the first place. It's not about decent hardware. It's about the spying and control that Microsoft forces upon Windows users. As above, the code is on GitHub and I've not read a report of any issues with RevIOS anywhere on the web. My bank info is still intact and not stolen or used in any way, but then again it's very rare that I use very personal information on the internet. I mostly use virtual debit cards etc, or use my phone for that sort of thing.
I get what you're saying though. But I'd rather have a clean debloated Windows over anything. Yeah you can do it this via a vanilla install and doing all the removals yourself, that is always another alternative.

I'm not talking about telemetry, I'm talking about malicious actors getting access to your personal info and passwords.

Again, too each their own, I'm just raising it for the less technically-minded. A couple FPS isn't worth having my bank account drained.

Yes I know, I wasn't disputing that, I was simply saying Microsoft themselves add all kinds of crap.
I've been running it for over a year and my bank account is fine, but I use Monzo and Revolut anyway so it's all done via my phone. My passwords. Nothing has been changed, or logged into at another location. As I use 2factor on most things and you get alerted.

As you say, each to their own. I haven't had a problem with it. Or if something has been breached, I'm not aware of it...

Wasn’t specifically telling you not to use it, just making others aware so that they can make an informed. You’re better off trusting Microsoft than some random dude with a GitHub.

Best option is to understand what the scripts do and run them yourself on a trusted vanilla install.
