*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

I don't think it's teribly bloated but for those running on 8gb of ram, it could have an effect. I'm on 32GB but even when I had 16GB, it was still snappy.
Yeh I'm currently on 16gb while my 64 is being rma'd and I cant tell the difference lol, maybe less is worse, but to be fair my folks laptop is 4gb and it runs fine there too, surprising

TBH, can't say I have noticed any difference moving to 32GB and there were probably only a couple of games where I noticed ram slowly creeping up to 16GB.

I'm surprised it runs fine on 4GB as I'd thought that would be borderline :)

Sure it doesn't have soldered plus a spare dimm slot? my folks Lenovo is soldered but also has a spare slot, worth checking, stick 8gb in it and you'll be golden

Its not terribly bloated anyway is it? nothing stock causes any issues on my systems personally.
Bloat is in the eye of the beholder so it depends but Microsoft have a history of added more 'stuff' to each release of Windows. With each new version there's always more services, more tasks, more software, and more background processes.

Nothing really that causes 'issues' per se as Windows is pretty stable these days and what's not an issue for you maybe an issue for someone else: E.g I personally don't want Windows trying to auto discover proxy settings when i know i don't use one, i don't want it connecting to the cloud just in case i may want to sync my settings with another device, i don't want it trying to setup no existent WiFi, sending data back to the customer experience improvement program, updating maps, setting up mobile broadband, a pen, a touchpad, family safety, and the other 100+ things i disable.

I don't want it doing those things because i don't want to waste CPU cycles, RAM, and electricity on things for Microsoft's benefit and because I'm a firm believer in reducing attack vectors.

On the plus side i hear MS are planning to make Windows 12 a lot more modular, something I've been saying they should've done for years.

Thats fair enough, everyone has their own opinions, I use a local account on my main machine but thats for a different reason, I cant say the other things annoy me enough to worry about them but each to their own.

Windows isn't bloated but if you run on 8GB RAM you may have issues? May not count as bloat but if you need that much RAM just to use the OS then MS need to look at their code 'cos it sounds like poor programming to me (as a non-dev). 4GB should be sufficient to run a reasonably responsive OS. If you need bells & whistles for games that's a different matter.
