*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

I use to use Windows 10 LTSC and as soon as it comes out for Windows 11 I will be moving over to it.

Windows 11 LTSC

It's important for organizations to have adequate time to plan for adopting Windows 11. Today we're announcing that the next Windows LTSC releases will be available in the second half of 2024:

  • Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC
  • Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC
We'll provide more details as we get closer to availability.

I don't want the IOT version just the normal version.

EDIT: by the looks of it that 1 ISO contains all LTSC versions.
EDIT: Hell yeh! that looks like there's absolutely nothing installed with it. Just file explorer and the bin lol

Really dumb question.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro and got notification in Windows Update that I can upgrade for free to Windows 11.

Does that mean I can only do an upgrade install? OR can I do a reformat, clean install of Windows 11 and then use my Windows 10 Pro license key?

If you use a Microsoft account then either, it'll pick up the key automatically if you do a clean install.

So I'm not using a Microsoft Account for my current Windows 10 Pro install, using a local account (although I do have a Microsoft account as I'm using One Drive on the PC, just its not listed in Windows as an account).

Should be able to do a clean install and it will activate based on the hardware ID once the system is on the internet.

When Windows 11 first came out I upgraded to Windows 11, made sure it was activated and went back to Windows 10 as I was not a fan of it.

I still do not like the UI but use explorer patcher to make it like Windows 10 and did a clean install of Windows 11 when I decided to move over without any issues.

Also using a local account and never used a Microsoft account. When asking to login just use [email protected] with a random password, it will fail to login and offer a local account (This worked for me back in June when I had to re install Windows 11)

To be honest, I find Windows 10 perfectly fine for my needs. Guess its just shiny new toy syndrome with Windows 11. :D

I have it on my work laptop and like the UI and new features, although there are some thing that are longer to get to than Windows 10 and require some additional clicks.

What options are people using for quickly uninstalling all of the crud that comes with Windows 11, I'm not interested in Mail and Calendar,XBox stuff and so on, or are people just binning them off manually?

If doing a clean install for region select "world" as this then leaves all the default crap out as it does not know what region your in to install them.

Once installed you can change it

I was just manually uninstalling them or make my own ISOs

Currently running Windows 10 on my desktop.

I can't upgrade to Windows 11 via Windows update because my computer is not compatible. The system is 10 years old.

I'm going to upgrade my mother board, CPU and ram.

How do I upgrade to Windows 11 on my system and carry over my license from Windows 10 ?

Looking on the overclockers store it's £100 for windows 11 disc. Hoping I don't have to go that route.

Thanks Ben

It's possible to bypass some of the requirements and install anyway.
If you'd rather look into that possibility, run WhyNotWin11 and post the result.

You could also try moving the HDD with Windows 10 on into the new machine, boot the machine, and then try reactivating it. While I don't run Windows anymore, a friend did this and then just had to call MS to activate his copy. If you have a digital licence connected to a Microsoft account that should also make it easier.
