Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

I sorted it, mate. I had to change my download location from London to Manchester, restarted Steam and it picked up where it left off and started downloading again.

Cheers.

Just to warn you I did the same and it failed again later on in the download, couldn't be bothered with a likely corrupt download so I did the above. Hopefully not the case for you!

Well that sucks. Much prefer the old save wherever you are.

For many games I'd agree with you, but with this type of game (a hub-based open world missiony-thing) it seems to make more sense to me to have it the way it is. I haven't encountered any missions long enough to annoy me with the inability to save part way through yet, and always starting from a tower (and given you can teleport between them it doesn't matter which one) seems to make each play session a little story in itself.

If we were talking a game like Deus Ex: HR, though, this system would annoy the bobbins out of me.

I picked this up on PC the other day.

Looks good and I like the background story and flashbacks but I just don't find the fighting exciting at all and that pretty much seems to be what the majority of the game will be ?

The AI seems pretty awful as well. You don't even seem to have to lose line of sight with the Orcs/Uruks and they just lose interest at a predetermined distance. I should have a baying mob chasing me down. Yesterday I walked right by the side of an archer who didn't react at all.

Obviously not a game for me. I was hoping for a bit more to the RPG side of it.

As a newcomer to this type of game, I'm getting to grips with this a lot more now - I seem to be doing a lot of those 'climbing up on a wall and then dropping on an orc' type kills, which are great fun with the buggers not knowing you're right above them. Also took out my first two captains last night, one of which was a vengeance kill - dropped his health right down and he tried to run away, but I nailed him just in time.

It's starting to get easier now I'm used to the mechanics, have 'bought' extra health and got a rune on my sword and dagger, but still sufficiently difficult to be a challenge - all I know is that it is incredibly satisfying when a play session results in progress.

Not a bad game, completed it last night.

Getting the huge kill streaks & using the right combination of skills is fun. Stealth gameplay is also quite fun, but a little bit too easy (as you can just arrow a person in the face if nobody has vision on you & get away with it).

Pros.

Good combat/stealth systems.
Interesting story & voice acting.
Challenge modes, nice boss type fights.
Nice graphics.
Cinematic gameplay feel.

Cons.

Too easy.
A little repetitive.
No real depth or meaningful customisation.
Pretty much 100% linear story/missions really.

Rename the movie files. Everything in game/interface/videos/legal along with intro.vib,wbplay.vib and nvidia_splash.vib.

First vid, I don't see you using finishers despite building up your combos, is that simply as you haven't got those abilities yet?

Nice to see another keyboard/mouse user, prefer it over controller in this game for some reason.

It was literally my first time haha! Also adding to that with my health so low if I stood still for even a second I would have died trying to do finishes etc as there were arrows being thrown from all angles!

I find the keyboard and mouse much more enjoyable than the controller!

If it is the execute finisher (Not to be confused with the ground finisher) you are immune while doing this as it is like a mini cut scene while doing it so spam it whenever its up.

You do get so powerful mid-late game in this. I like it. It still isn't too easy in places, it just makes you fell totally bad-ass!

Being able to use 2 finishers and shadowstrike are pretty OP.

You did WAY better than I did on my first time, I died, I kid you not in about 20 seconds. Jumped down, got stuck in, got STUCK in and immediately helped an orc to a new career as a boss lol :D

Think I'm done now. It says 42% done, and I have loads of missions left, but they are so incredibly bad I'm afraid I won't be able to finish them. It was fun while it lasted though.

I am getting really fed up of many games nowadays that show no invention, no thought in their mission gameplay. It really needs a shake-up. Having missions as restricted instances of the normal gameplay is really a poor state of affairs, and sadly is seeming to become quite common nowadays. It just shows no imagination at all. As I said earlier, I hope it is just a trend that will die out quickly, as it only started happening fairly recently(and to be fair is prevalent mainly in a few pubs/devs, WB and Ubisoft being the main offenders)

I would say the game overall would get a 6.5/10 from me. The nemesis system is what you should play it for.

The worst thing is being overly confident and then taking a poisoned arrow to the chest. Just two of those buggers can reduce a maxed out HP bar to a very low level.

I'm quite familiar with this type of game thanks to playing the AC series to the death so my first death came to a Caragor and those awful QTE's. 37hrs played with about 75% completed - just wish Monolith would get a patch out for the mad stuttering bug as I've played more than half the game with it.

Cheers to the guys who gave me info regarding using the PS3 controller. I'll give it a try tonight. Might pick up a wired 360 controller at some point or persuade my brother in law to part with his scuff controller when he gets an Xbox one :)

i have to say i don't really play this kind of game but just finished it and i was actually a pretty good game i mean yeah the actual questline is very short but i looks good and is fluid enough. The nemesis system is a really nice addition but i don't know it just feels like there should be more to it.
