Midweek Football Thread *spoilers*

* Fabregas replaced by Bowyer
* Doyle replaced by Rooney(Captain)

Fabregas is coming up as doubtful and with United coming off a 1-0 loss I can see them hammering Wolves tonight! *fingers crossed*

1935: Section E, rule 20 says: "In every league match each participating club shall field a full strength team." I don't know how you enforce that though. Presumably, Mick McCarthy could just say that his usual first-teamers have a variety of niggles and sniffles.

Teams have rested and rotated players for ages? Caroline Cheese excels herself once again.

10 changes!!! what the hell is McCarthey thinking?? :mad: i expected afew changes but not the whole outfield team. What a joke. :(

Nowt to play for really, he might as well rest a few.

MU are a wounded animal, Wolves are in for a pasting one way or the other, MMc might as well chill and let some Yoots play.

Especially if Wolves lose to Burnley at the weekend! Doesn't make sense as if they get a thumping, the goal difference is hardly going to help! Very odd.

Yes but have they ever rested 10 players for one game? :p

I see what McCarthy is doing, but I can guarantee they won't do the same against Chelsea. McCarthy was in the paper the other day saying "United need to beat us". Its not going to be hard...

Really? Maybe he's got a fiver riding on it.

Irrespective though, the rule does state that a side shall field their strongest lineup. This then surely excludes the often made changes bought about by resting players or rotation? I'm sure one of the league winners have rested that many players after winning it in recent years. Or a similar story if a top table side has an important Euro fixture next. My point is, it was a pointless bit of blurb from Miss Cheese.

This is a bit different though. League Winners, they've got nothing to play for. McCarthy is effectively handing a result to United here and you can bet he won't show the same courtesy to the other title contenders.

Saying that, I do agree with your point about the rotation system and how it allows for this. 10 players is however, a very excessive use of this rule.

As for Cheesey, I'd gladly take over her job if she ever steps down and I spout more rubbish than she does!

I'm a bit confused, do you think he's doing this as a favour to man utd? as in, if he were playing chelsea tonight he'd have a full strength team out?

It is somewhat strange. Perhaps he's trying to keep his side intact for Burnley this Sunday. Maybe he feels it's worthier to concentrate and get 3 points then rather than tonight.

Not sure I agree with your point about fielding such a side to Chelsea as well though.
