Migraines , who suffers from them here?

Yeah i get them about every month ish.

I get a sort of flashing blindness at the spot i'm looking at, which then gradually expands over the course of an hour or so.

Eventually i can't see at all and have nausea, pain, giddiness and extreme sensitivity to light and sound.

Have tried all medication - prescription and non prescription - nothing touches it.

Okay not being medical, being scientific.

Clenching your teeth in your sleep causes muscles to spasm.
The spasm releases neurotranmitters.
The neurotranmitters cause dilation (swelling) of blood vessels in the brain.
A migraine ensues.

Get to your dentist and get a biteguard made to stop clenching and grinding at night.
Wear it.
Most people completely migraine free after, no medications required.

Only helps people who get a migraine this way. Most people is an overstatement. Most people who have had this type of migraine would be a better statement.
Mine is triggered by fake citrus. This would not help at all!

Hey, you wanted scientific :p.

That's class, what a trigger.
You must have been first in the random queue when those were being handed out.

Is Fake cirtus a specific e-number?

Just what I call it, its in one of my previous posts in here. Applies to synthetic citrus, and the stuff made from concentrate. There is clearly something added when the water is removed. Took me years to work it out!

Have had them for years.....usually 2 to 3 episodes a year around spring/summer. Used to assume it was to do with pollen etc given time of year....Then two years ago..."brainwave"....realised I gulped a lot of orange squash etc around that time of year...read ingredients..."sulphur dioxide".....googled....seems to be migraine related....anyway, stopped drinking right away..that was two years ago...so far not had a migraine since. Whether it's sulphur dioxide (sulphites) or just the orange concentrate in general or some other ingredient I don't know...but not going to touch again. As has already been said...make a note of what you eat....(& drink!) ...(edit..with a breakdown of ingredients/additives etc) before the migraine started.

I get them very occasionally, it knocks me out for a day at least, can't do much, can hardly open my eyes, move let alone watch tv or do anything. It's a question of lying in bed, and hope to sleep and for it to pass! :(

You need to find out the cause. Start by cutting certain foods from your diet. Usually its the C's. Caffeine, Citrus, Cheese and Chocolate. Cut one out at a time then reintroduce.

I discovered mine was Citrus! Specifically anything from Concentrate, any sort of concentrated juices. So diluty citrus juice, anything with has 100% orange juice (From concentrate - The fresh squeezed is fine!), tango, fanta, any sort of citrus dessert. But its perfectly fine with fresh oranges, mandarins etc.

Echoe's my own experience.(so far)..tho if it's citrus itself or an additive included is another matter..either way...must be something in this for some of us.

I guess I am one of the lucky migraine sufferers! I have one once every 2-3 months. For me a migraine is always preceded by a sleepless night. I awake feeling extremely tired. At around 10am in the morning I will then be hit by an aura which will expand outwards like this:

This will last for 20-30 minutes, after which time I feel sick, tired and confused and can sometimes slurr my speech. I find a good rest in a dark room helps. I rarely get debilitating pain which I can be thankful for!

I suffer from migraines too but I can avoid them by doing certain things which work for me, making sure I drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day for a start.

And like Charlier Bravo;

As soon as I'm getting a headache I take tablets to try and control it

As soon as get the slightest hint of a headache I take 2 400mg Ibuprofens. If I don't catch it in time though it's time for sumatriptan and bed.

I used to get migraines quite frequently, they completely wiped me out for a day at a time. On one occasion I had a migraine that caused me to no longer be able to understand written words, which was strange.

As I have grown up I have had fewer and fewer migraines, and I also discovered the magic of Syndol. If I get one now I take 2 of those and lie down, which seems to work 95% of the time. The main problem with Syndol is that after I take them I get a drunk sort of feeling that lasts a couple of hours, better than the pain though.

I used to get bad migranes when I was much younger. They tailed off when I left school and I don't think I've had one in 10 or 15 years now. But they used to start with a slight blurring of vision in my left eye. It would gradually get worse until I started seeing patterns of brightly coloured triangles. They would get worse and migrate across from left to right until my entire field of vision was obscured and I was often completely blind for about 30 minutes. Then, as they cleared I'd get a terrible headache usually on one side of my head. Normal headache tablets wouldn't have any effect. They really were debilitating.

I've had a few. For me the worst thing to them is the week or so of aching that hangs around, usually when i bend down or turn my head sharply :(

I get them on rare occassions, usually after (and I mean after, once the stress has gone) long periods of stress (i.e. months). Usually for a day or so my body will be on full alert. Moving my eyeballs in their sockets hurt. Senses so sensitive it hurts. Contents of stomach and intestines are rejected. Blurry vision with odd shaped patterns, and a head that wants to implode.

My girlfriend gets them much more often and seemingly much worse. The neurologists are unfortunately stumped, and she has prescription history longer than anything I've ever seen. :(

I used to get them several years ago, they started when my mum unfortunately passed away. They used to cripple me, I even went to the hospital on a few occasions where I'd more or less passed out from them.

I had them nearly every week for a good 7-8 months until until the stress at what had happened had gone, they sort of faded away after that.

Yeah... get them myself. I've gone for months without having any, a whole year sometimes... then I wake up and I feel like I can't see, walk, I just want to die really... haha. It's such a terrible feeling...
